Using the runway that is in use in real life

Do you have to use the runway that is in use in real life? Most of the time people base what runway they use off the winds in-game, which either isn’t always accurate or doesn’t correlate to the runway in use in real life and it melts my brain when I directly tell them what runway is in use and they don’t use it anyway.

Hey there!

No, it is not mandatory to use the same runway in-use in real life. Most users will go with the runway that the winds are most favouring.

From my experience very few people actually listen to the traffic advisories on Unicom.

Some people even ask for traffic advisories then blatantly ignore them

is there any way to know which runway is being used irl when there is no ingame atis

Just my opinion but it would be nice if most people just used the runway that’s in-use IRL. I see conflicts all the time especially departing traffic and landing traffic. I typically see more people use the runway that’s in-use IRL, but there’s so many reasons why conflicts about runway-in use would arise.

I feel like most people don’t know what requesting traffic advisories actually means.

You can use a flight tracking app like flightradar24 and look at the general pattern of landings, departures, and the planes in approach.

I know, it’s so annoying. I wish the indicator in-game didn’t just base it off winds but also the runway that’s actually in use in real life. I don’t know if that’s possible but it would be amazing if it was.

This happens to people who aren’t very familiar with the airports. Not much can be done even controlled airports go based with the wind colour mostly unless it’s someone who’s very familiar with controlling the certain airspace. For those who do like to have updated information can check metar, taf values on simbrief which tends to be current values slightly more updated than IF.

It would also be great when ATC open busy airports with Departure and Arrival frequency it should help out to balance out the traffic flow efficiently.

Station WX is a good app for US airports.

It has ATIS, weather, and charts.

This is a pet peeve of mine just because the winds aren’t favorable doesn’t mean you cant use the runway. I will always use the runway that’s in use irl whether or not the winds are favorable in IF.

Controllers who can’t even be arsed to open flightradar to look at what runway is in use are the most annoying type in IF.

lol yeah and if you were to dm them they gonna get mad. I tend to disconnect when I witness unprofessional atc to avoid confronting them.
