Using Others' Photos

Dear Forum,

We have recently had someone contact us with a complaint that a photo of theirs has been used without a ‘licence’ (even thought the photo wasn’t for commercial use). Whilst we can pretend to be lawyers and debate whether you can or cannot use specific photos per case, it is privy that you are careful about the photos you chose to use on the forum. This is mainly because we don’t want long, boring emails from complainants.

As I mentioned, no one on here (queue a sudden influx) is a lawyer, and quite frankly there are probably many rules about the use of photography that isn’t yours that are nonsense. Regardless, from now on please be careful about what photos you use, and where you get them from. If in doubt, don’t bother and find another image. Easiest thing to do is to use a photo you, or someone you know, has and can use with no hassle.

I am sure everyone is tired of debates about this sort of thing, and FDS don’t exactly want people moaning to them, legitimately or not, about the misuse of their images.

Good showing chaps,
Misha

As a fake lawyer, I would be interested in knowing if the complainant was correct.

This will help many people, personally I don’t care about my photos being used. But thank you.

Judge: Defendant, state your case

“This person used my picture in a 777 feature request, and I am asking for 3 million dollars in copyright claims”.

Judge: What the fudge is a feature request…

So give a like, posts like that just add noise and are not valuable comments.
