Using Constructive Sentences Instead of Fillers

Hey everyone,
I know it isn’t a big deal to most people on here, but I don’t like to see fillers. It really isn’t that hard to make a sentence that has at least twenty characters. Forums are built on discussions and full sentences are a part of discussions. The most common types I see are with “20 characters”, “20 char”, or at the end of posts. When making a constructive sentence, try to elaborate more on your statement. Here is an example- Billy responds to Bob in “Humorous Live Photo’s”, because Bob posted a funny picture. Instead of saying “lol xd😂🤣(20 cHaRS)”, you can say “Wow, that gave me a good laugh!” Sure you had to type a little more, but it only took 3.14159… seconds. I get that some of us are young, but I don’t think that it is too hard to make a constructive sentence that is only twenty characters. If it was 400 characters, I really wouldn’t care if you said it. I probably never post. Anyways, on the next episode of “What gets me triggered”…
Thanks for reading, have a good one!

Or you could just like the comment. There is no need to express your emotions via a comment when we have a like button.

Feel free to flag those fillers all you want.

Yeah, but some people like to express their feelings by commenting, so if they do want to do that, they should at least be constructive.

But expressing your feelings like this isn’t really what I’d call ‘constructive’ though.

It doesn’t really have a useful purpose to the topic.

Yes I agree that if you agree with statement then you can hit that “like” button. Perhaps where we see the use of a ‘filler’ then those posts should be flagged? Though tbh I haven’t noticed as many use of this recently

I usually use longer version of the same meaning. For example, using ‘Thanks for clarifying!’ instead of ‘Ok’.

YES.

Sam & myself just went on a spree removing a lot of those posts. We want you to flag filler posts.

I know you can just pm the person if you want to give them a compliment, but I think it is better just to post it as a reply to the in the topic the post was created in. Although it might not add to the topic, the post is still has to do with the topic as it is just a simple compliment. It won’t add to the topic, but I don’t see anything wrong with replying a compliment to a post.

Seb, is this acceptable?

Yes, that’s perfectly fine. It’s a “nice” sentence… whatever that means. But you know what i mean.

Exactly! It probably took you less than 3 more seconds to do that right?

Oh my God. I couldn’t agree more. I just hate ‘text speech’ in general because it came from when you had to hit your phone 30 different times just for one word. But now we have keyboards, it needs to be banned entirely.

Great post! I tend to link Carson’s post about fillers to the post that has a filler and then I flag. I think fillers are my worst pet peeve on this forum lol.

@Cole_Collins
Keep in mind, instead of complimenting you can always just hit the ❤️ Button.

Keep in mind that a new user might not know these rules so if you see a new user using fillers, shoot them a pm explaining why we don’t use fillers.

But I mean it is written minimum 20 characters… they should understand there is a reason for that no…?

(Although if they keep doing it obviously we should pm them)

I tend to agree with @Wattsup_jet here.
For many of us, some of the guidelines and rules we have here are pretty obvious as we’ve been here for a while and know how this place works. For a new user, Discourse might not be the easiest platform to understand initially.

Thanks for the topic! I agree we need to be more constructive. More elaboration means better writers and better community members.

Now @MishaCamp can’t use filters. Muhahaha!
