Hello, as I’m learning atc, I have a question
When is the upwind leg actually used ?, I’ve never had to use it when having aircraft on patterns and I don’t see an option for it in the atc menu so I’m wondering if there is any situation where it should be used
There isn’t an upwind or crosswind leg command. If you want to sequence an aircraft behind an aircraft on upwind, wait until he’s on downwind or late crosswind then sequence.
Ok thank you for your help !, I appreciate it :)
You can issue an extend upwind which is used in some situations, found in the ATC menu under pattern instructions. Here’s an oldie but goodie…
With aircraft remaining in the pattern, extending upwind can be a great tool to use when aircraft need to fly further out to safely turn crosswind behind traffic they’re following or even fly a few more miles, avoiding an extremely long downwind.
Although a rare instruction, this can be extremely useful to control your pattern work without incident.
