Update on addressing the performance issues with the warbirds? Spitfire and P-38

I sent out a partially drafted version of this post before, and wasn’t able to find it. I’ve finally figured out how to delete it, I deleted everything and I’m starting over. Sorry for the confusion, the forum isn’t easy for me.

Spitfire and P-38

I’ll first say. I do think the models of both of these planes are beautiful. But the performance on both of them is completely shot. The P-38 Lightning had a service ceiling of 44,000 feet, and a max level flight of 438 mph. But in game, it won’t even sniff reaching 20,000 feet, and it won’t maintain 300 ground speed at any altitude. Same is the case with the Spitfire. I get numbers don’t always match perfectly- but that’s like, half.

I’ve had the game since May, 2013, and have had global/premium for most of that time. And Ive waited and waited. There have been new skins, new planes, all sorts of new content added. I looked, those planes haven’t been touched since 2012. That’s 13 years. That’s a long time that. Obama was still finishing his first term in 2012.

On top of the halved performance, there’s no AP. So no time acceleration, or other features that make the game playable.

(Note: Someone just informed me there was a suggestion somewhere- to ‘rework’ these planes? I wasn’t able to find it, but with all due respect, I hope that isn’t how this is being handled. Voting on adding new content is great, but this is different. Power wise- these planes are broken, and should be fixed so they fly correctly. No? Anyways If someone can link the thing where the rework suggestion is, I’ll go vote on it. I just hope the missing power being added isn’t dependent on the plane getting an overhaul)

So should I just give up on this? Are there just no plans to fix it? That’s gonna really suck since I know I’m out the probably $500+ I’ve racked up in global fees supporting the game, but at least I can know to stop waiting. I get some things take time to fix, but this is excessive. Please advise. Thank you.

While it would be great to see these underrated aircraft reworked and their performance model fixed - however one aspect the developers have to think about is how worth it is spending the time to rework them. They probably aren’t going to choose a rework that likelihood is - very few people (outside of the military-focused VAs) are going to fly after the “initial update new aircraft hype”.

We saw it with the Challenger 350 - it took a long time to make, a lot of people flew it when it first released and since then, I don’t see it very often at all. I suspect a similar thing would happen with the Spitfire/P-38, if not drop off worse given the community tends to prefer the longer-range aircraft.

I will edit this reply later on tonight with my views on this and my game plan to help get the warbirds more love and attention.

I’m really surprised the Challenger350 doesn’t get a lot of play. I fly that, and the TBM-930 quite a bit.

I haven’t quite figured out this community. I would never have guessed that models like variants of the A330 would pique people’s interest more than something more niche, like the IL-62, or maybe a DC-4. But I guess it does. Don’t get me wrong, passenger planes are cool, modern commercial airliners are great. But people preferring to have for the 717, CRJ-1000, and E-190 strikes me as odd, I’d happily trade any one of those out to be able to fly the DeHavilland Comet, or the BE-200chs

Unfortunately, that’s just your opinion. I actually share your opinion and had the same issue with the 787 vs. 767 poll. The problem is that, although you, @Skyler.Cooper, and plenty of other community members come to mind, it’s just not something that more IF players want. It’s the sad reality of the flawed system that determines new and reworked aircraft. In my opinion, I would have picked the P-38 rework or Spitfire rework over the PA-28 ten times over; it’s just that our sentiment isn’t shared by the vast majority of IF players, so we will probably see these aircraft get removed before they get reworked. If you would like to support the one aircraft in IF that needs a rework more than any other, I suggest you vote for the C-17 rework linked below.

When you say ‘my opinion’, which part do you mean? About me being surprised about people preferring variations of current commercial airliners, over a broader scope of aviation?
