Hi I am not new to IF but am new to the community, on approach into RKSI from KJFK earlier today an F-18 escorted me extremely close to my A380. This was on the expert server. It was unwanted and incredibly distracting.
In the attached screenshots you can see they were doing maneuvers VERY close to my plane. I tried shaking them, doing two 360s but they persisted, i the distraction I lost track of my descent, almost getting a speed violation trying to shake them. They followed me down to the adjacent runway and taxied very close behind me.
I parked on the taxiway and waited until they disconnected which took about 5 minutes. This greatly ruined the experience after preparing and flying for nearly 14hrs only to get bungled at the end .
I am asking if there is anyway to get a mod to take action against this player, this is unexceptable behavior on the expert server.
Sorry if this post is in the wrong topic, let me know where I can improve, thank you
Hello and welcome to the Infinite Flight Community @Engine_A340 !
I’m sorry you had this experience on the Expert Server. It’s too late to issue a violation now. The best option is to reach out to the user here on the forum and let them know it made you uncomfortable. If it happens again, contact an ATC supervisor immediately while it is happening.
Unfortunately things like this happen. Now a days you can basically treat the expert server like it’s casual server. There’s no consequences for people doing things wrong, instead more often then more if you’re flying right you’re the one who has to deal with the consequences.
ATc Supervisors are senior controllers, but they can also report as a pilot. Unfortunately, if there was no ATC or Mods/Supervisors present, there is nothing that can be done. They can be contacted on here, or on Discord. Have a great rest of your day!
IFATC Supervisors can be found on the frequencies or flying. Unlike regular IFATC members, they can report pilots in both situations: while flying or controlling. If ATC is not active, you can contact a supervisor and they will report the user, but you must do it while the issue is happening; otherwise, they won’t have a reason to act.
If they are not currently playing, you can DM them here on the forum. For some names, check out these topics: IFATC Supervisor Stories: Edition 10
Dang, this really sucks. Things like this can happen on the expert server with no atc presence. So if they have their account un-linked, there isn’t really anything you can do.
I’m sorry you had a rather bad experience with a Fighter Escort. I’m glad you got no Violation. there is sadly not much to do other than focus on your own flight.
I do escorts regularly, trying to give people a cool experience and maybe some cool shots, however I try to make it as safe as possible. I usually get close to traffic too, sometimes I escort them to the runway, but I always try to not distract them.
sadly, there are people who just destroy others experience which is very sad.
I personally feel like escorts are a cool way to combine different aspects of Aviation, but it should always be safe for anyone involved.
I hope you still enjoy this community, 99% of the people here are cool☺️
How do you tell an escort you dont want to be escorted? I like to get cool shots but I like the choice of what is in my shot.
With so eone who is kindly trying to escort you are there signals you can give to let them know that the escort is unwanted? With this person, on top of trying 360s, I tried turning all of my lights off for several seconds several times, but it was useless, not that they wouldve cared anyway.
And there is the possibility of messgaing them on here but with the workload of approach and landing it would be a shame to have to go around to buy time messaging them, and even still you may be low on fuel, or monitoring other nearby aircraft. And even then theres no gurantee that they wont follow you on another attempt if they dont have their community messages pulled up and ready.
I’m working on videos from my flights to begin an instagram account solely for pics and videos, I dont have a lot of time to do flights, especially long haul, its really disappointing to fumble a landing after so much prep and time.
But yes if you know any signals to ward off escorters let me know thank you!
I totally get you, there is nothing you can really do. either you try to shake them off (what in 90% of the time dont work due to the maneuverability of a fighter) or you just try to ignore them for the time beeing.
in active ATC area’s usually the controllers take care of it.
its kind of annoying that there are such encounters, I know that since even to I like to give escorts from time to time I on the other hand also don’t want to be escorted.
I have to add to my comment above, that when I escort someone for a longer time, its people I know personally where I know there is no problem with doing so whatsoever.
for random people, I just do a brief visit, before I turn away again.
but there are ignorant people out there who don’t think as far as they should, and I’m sorry its like this.
