United Saves 170,000 Gallons of Fuel by Using Lighter Paper on In-Flight Magazine

Article:

United only cut 1 ounce from the magazine weight (7.85 ounces to 6.85 ounces). United will save $290,000 a year from this initiative.

This comes in addition to UA stopping in-flight duty free sales last year, saving them $2.3 million a year in fuel costs.

Thoughts? I found this very interesting.

Incredible!

Money saved = more profits, which is the sole reason that United as a business exists. Whoever proposed the idea to make each magazine 1 ounce lighter should get a huge raise. $290,000 can go a long way!

That’s ridiculous. On a UA 737, that’s 11 pounds less per flight, that adds up it seems!

That’s 28.3495 grams, I had to google so thought I’d help metric users.

That’s inhales quite a lot of gas.

I mean the savings are more or less a rounding error, but the PR value of this is definitely something else. Better story than assaulting and dragging doctors off their planes, I guess

Wow… that’s amazing.
Numbers add up.

Would have never thought it would have made that big of a difference. Makes you wonder what else is disposable.

This is like American saving a lot of money ($24,000 I think) by removing one olive from their first class salad

I can see United employees using a device to separate plys of TP.

Or you could just purchase single-ply TP… lol

It’s another reference you didn’t get:

True. But why buy it when you can make your employees do it. 😉
