United Airlines Suspends Chicago To Hong Kong/Newark To Buenos Aires

United has just announced it will suspend two international routes:

  • Chicago (ORD)-Hong Kong (HKG) — daily flight suspended beginning September 8, 2019
  • Newark (EWR)-Buenos Aires (EZE) — daily flight suspended beginning October 26, 2019

ORD-HKG is operated by a 772 while EWR-EZE is on a 763.

United will continue to serve both Hong Kong and Buenos Aires from other hubs:

  • Newark (EWR)-Hong Kong (HKG) — once daily
  • San Francisco (SFO)-Hong Kong (HKG) — once daily (moves to 2x daily on October 26, 2019)
  • Houston (IAH)-Buenos Aires (EZE) — once daily

Looks like both routes are declining due to the political situations in Hong Kong/Argentina.

In my opinion, the second daily SFO-HKG seems a bit skeptical if tensions continue in Hong Kong, although the Chicago cut may funnel passengers to the flight.

I wonder if Cathay Pacific is a better choice than United for travelling from SFO-HKG and they also have many flights throughout the day I assume
