since I’m already IFATC, this question might seem stupid, but I need your help with Unicom.
Since we don’t have any command to send after Takeoff, I’m used to send, that I’m on left or right crosswind of my takeoff runway to tell following traffic, that they’re good to go and I’m out of there way, even if I don’t do patterns. But theres another command “Send Traffic Advisories”. If I use this, I can choose a runway and then left or right traffic. If I use this, the voice will tell e.g. “Ibiza Traffic is using Runway 24, left traffic”.
What does this tell the traffic? That everybody doin patterns should use left traffic of runway 24? Like “ok, somebody has to decide it, let me do this”? Cause it doesn’t send my callsign here.
How I interpret it is that someone requests trsffic advisories to get notified which runways are in use/pattern direction, and you the pilot who’s at the airport would send them eg “Detroit Metro Traffic is using runway 03R, right traffic”.
So it isnt only used to find which traffic patterns are in use, but the runways in use. Can get pretty awkward if the airport has multiple runways though, so sending 2-4 of those won’t hurt I guess. Would be nice to choose multiple runways in the command.
When someone sends something like that, it tells all those on the Unicom that the user is doing patterns on that runway with a certain pattern side, and that they should watch out for them. It’s used specifically by aircraft in or performing pattern work. At least, that is what I know from real world aviation.
I really hope your feature can get added soon, that would be really nice!
