Underappreciated 2D or 3D Airports and Scenery?

Are there any 3D airports in combination with surrounding scenery that are underappreciated? Or are all the hidden gems mostly discovered and agreed upon?

One of my absolute favorites that doesn’t get a lot of attention is LATI, Tirana. Please visit it if you haven’t already, definitely worth it

Jackson Hole is a lovely one. Also the approach into UBBB west inbound is beautiful.

That’s pretty good! I just checked it out. I don’t get to that part of the world enough to know it much. Do you have a preferred approach or departure route to LATI?

I reckon South America is a gold mine with some of the most interesting airports. Scenery there can be quite nice and there are certainly some talented editors that are editing in the region.

Wow, Jackson Hole is stunning. I definitely needed to be re-acquainted! Even with a bit of fog. On to Azerbaijan shortly to check it out.

I was in awe recently exploring more the rugged west coast near the southern tip. Maybe it was from SAWH. Any suggestions on a couple or more potential surprise 3D locations? Highlands, Jungle or coast etc.?

Ayers Rock airport (YAYE) Has good scenery of the red dirt of the aussie outback!

Panama City, San José (Costa Rica), Curacao, Caracas (not 3D but super unappreciated!)

KROA and KLYH surrounded by the blue ridge mountains and Smith Mountain Lake.

Checked it out last night. Been meaning to go there irl. The IF experience is a great representation of the isolation of the “Rock”, with the humble 3D airport in the middle of bright red stark emptiness of the land.

It’s looking spectacular (I’m doing it in reverse order)! Never been there before…

Let’s bring something I blab on about all the time but certainly worth doing so as not many know about this.

Here we have Chongqing Wushan Airport (ZUWS) overlooking the Yangtze River and Wu mountain range, so a high scenery dtanstard is simply to be expected.

Additionally, this comes with the perk of it being among the wildest airports I’ve ever flown to, simply because… well… this

Is there a bias in what I’m saying? Partly. But even without it this still stands.

Glad to be able to suggest some new places! I love flying in South America, it is always gorgeous!

I really like the lush green texturing in this area. Only been to Virginia once irl (a wedding in Shenandoah National Park where an Appalachian bear surprised us approaching the lodge from the trail). This is great to get to know the Blue Ridge mountains better. I always thought of the East as being not too hilly. Thanks for this!

LYBE Belgrade definitely, beautiful approach onto rwy 30 flying over whole of Belgrade and then coming into land. I have some pictures of the approach IRL if anyone wants to see it.

Ha! I get what you mean by bias. No harm in bias when it’s so spectacular! One of the most stunning airports for sure. Thanks for recommending. Thanks even more for making it! I’m going back for more. I can hardly believe they fit the runway and airport on every available bit of top surface. And the surrounding terrain is no less impressive.

I have to say Kilimanjaro International Airport (HTKJ). The airport itself is very small but the scenery around it is spectacular, with great views to Mount Kilimanjaro and all the sabana around it, it’s just amazing

Just take Norway for a spin! The terrain data there is just awful! I am a fellow IFAET member, and the topography at certain airports just ruins the essence of it! We can just cross our fingers for newer satellite topography!

The departure to the south east is stunning. A route I recommend is Tirana to Athens in the wizz air A320 or 321
