U.S. manufactured aircraft flown by Portuguese carriers

Before you read further please be advised that this is not a Boeing vs. Airbus or U.S. vs. European manufactured aircraft thread. While I’m more of a Boeing fan than an Airbus fan for reasons i’ll keep to myself (unless you want to discuss lol), I agree that both companies build great planes & I’m a big fan of the A310.

This thread is to discuss the interesting and rarely discussed topic of U.S. manufactured aircraft operated by Portuguese carriers historically and currently.

Unknown to many, TAP Air Portugal who currently operates an all Airbus fleet once operated a mostly American aircraft fleet featuring some of the greatest classic airliners ever built: Boeing 707, 727, 737-200, 747-200 (TAP classic livery featured in IF!), and the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar. The French built Caravelle, another great airliner was also operated by TAP.

Euro Atlantic Airways (based in Lisbon) still operates a mostly Boeing fleet on some very interesting routes. These aircraft include the Boeing 737, 757, 767, and 777.

Please feel free to discuss these topics. Discussion about TAP, SATA, Euro Atlantic Airways and other Portuguese carriers is also fair game.

I know I plan to fly some routes flown by TAP, SATA and Euro Atlantic Airways once Global hits the block. Look forward to some good discussions.Cheers!

Legendary livery. Best retro livery if painted today :)

I would also love these! Next time post this on features category. When making a features request, please only request things at once and only use one picture.

He’s just discussing about Boeings in Portuguese aviation.

I know , but he said he would love these in the game so it actually fits in the features or maybe real world aviation category

This topic is the exact copy of the original one, but this time with pictures. This is a feature request (according to original topic). It was made by the same user.

I apologize if I duplicated this, when I posted the same topic earlier it was closed as I wasn’t yet a member.

I have no problem moving this post to another category if it would cause less confusion. My goal is to foster discussion. If these items are featured in the future that’s great, but I’d really just like to foster some interesting discussion with everyone.

No problemo. But I agree, it would be a good feature request ;)

Thanks!

I think that a really cool idea in future would be if there’s a way users can help FDS design aircraft. Designing & testing these planes in IF probably takes quite some time with everything that entails (research to ensure flight physics are accurate, drawing different parts, etc). FDS would ultimately have final say on what flies & what doesn’t.

I think a Boeing 707 would be a great classic addition to IF given there are so many civilian & military versions as well (KC-135, RC-135, E3 Sentry & I believe some French Air Force planes).

I remember when a TAP a330 visited NBO during a charter flight. Most beautiful A330 I’ve ever seen. Took a pic but I lost it :(

I agree, the colors really match. I’m lucky because I can see them like 2 / 3 times a week.

I really like the second livery.

One of these images is a L-1011 Tristar, which was manufactured by Lockheed.

Yes you’re correct. I will rename the post “U.S. manufactured aircraft”. Thanks!

Excellent! I can see that they’ve been very creative with the livery design.

The actual livery of TAP, for me is amazing, better than the retro. Nowadays TAP´s fleet is 85% airbus, 10% Embraer, and 5% ATR (im not sure if ATR is airbus). Its sad to see that TAP doesnt have any Boeing, for me they should buy a 737 max for transatlantic flights, and a 787 to fly to Asia.

The new livery is pretty but I miss the old livery. I Remember flying to Portugal on an A319 with the older livery, it was cool.

I totally miss the Boeing fleet, TAP flew a great variety of Boeing aircraft. Hopefully they’ll get some Boeings in the future. All boils down to which manufacturer will give the airline the best deal + life cycle costs (i.e.: maintenance costs, ease of getting parts, logistics, etc).

Im sure that one Day they ll get a 737max or a 777 or a 787, because the company should start flying to China
