At the moment there is a Super Typhoon (Typhoon is the name for a hurricane that originates in South East Asia) that has just passed Philippines and Taiwan and is expected to make landfall in Hong Kong, Macau and China over the next 24-48 hours. As it currently stands the storm is hovering around the Hurricane Category 5 ranking. So far this storm has forced an evacuation of over 50,000 people in Northern Philippines, warnings across Taiwan and China have already hoisted the highest level of warning they can for storms. Hong Kong have raised Typhoon Signal 3 and will raise Typhoon Signal 8 tomorrow morning. As of right now it is not certain but very likely they will raise to Typhoon Signal 10 tomorrow as it approaches, which is the highest level of warning. Hong Kong has only experienced 16 Typhoons which have reached the maximim ranking since records began in 1946. For anyone who wants to go to fly into the storm you can find its position as of right now below.
I have also provided the forecast track below along which also includes the estimated timing for the position and severity.
Surprisingly not much to see at the moment on the ground. But I anticipate that could be because of my location. But as of right now feels like a regular day, just slightly gloomy.
Oh umm…
Where I live right now is very windy, raining LOADS…
Its very windy. The second i open a window, it immediately closes.
A lot of wind sounds going on
New Territories, which could entirely be the reason it is not too bad either! Cause the typhoon is on your side of Hong Kong, so you were always bound to get it worse! Just glad there is not much flooding. But as the rain gets worse it could happen.
Hong Kong Observatory also announced area such as Sha Tin, Tai Po, Sai Kung and others will see sea levels rise over 6 meters with the worst around midnight. There is expected flooding in these areas of over 1 meter deep floods as well.
