I’m looking for two airports in IF that are both capable of supporting large aircraft (e.g. B777s) and are very close to one another. I wish to take off from one and land at the other.
This is something I’d like to know so that I can very quickly practice takeoff and landing (sometimes I don’t have much time to play). As mentioned in this feature request, the short final option puts you too close to the runway to really practice the full approach procedure.
Have you learned how to do patterns? Those are much better and quicker for landing practise. If you search Mark has done some great video tutorials in the #tutorials:flight category
Thanks, yes. I was interested to see whether I could get a quick takeoff-to-landing session from a couple of close airports than from flying a pattern and landing at the same place. I suspect you may be right, that flying a pattern is the best way.
Chicago O’Hare and Chicago Midway are close to each other. Chicago O’Hare is one of the largest airport in IF. I usually get in a Cessna 208 and do touch and go’s at LAX. I takeoff from 25R and immediately turn right to land at 24L, then takeoff to land at 07L. Repeat the whole progress. This is how I do quick patterns in a Cessna 208. I can’t do quick patterns in a Spit :/
San Francisco and Oakland are predestined airports for that.
There’s no thing like flying touch and go’s on SFO’s 28s and OAK’s 12 when wind conditions permit. It’s basically a pattern with a touch and go on downwind. Really fun.
Alternatively, you could just go with a few regular patterns.
You may know this, but you can fly Solo (no XP’s)…pick an airport, pick a runway, and then below the info is a choice for take-offs or landings (long approach).
I prefer this so I can set my own weather conditions.
{Also, those long appprach landings will show up in your totals after you eventually do a Live set and leave the Sim, though not the short finals.}
You could try a EGKK - EGLL, however as others mentioned best to start off doing circuits in order to learn how to fly the aircraft correctly and then when you get the oppotunity start some slightly longer flights such as EGBB to EGLL.
#Finding an airport location to suite your needs.
Step 1. Open the app
Step 2. Select online, or solo flight
Step 3. Select a region you would prefer to fly in
Step 4 Click fly
Step 5. Use the map to search an appropriate location for which you asked
Step 6. Smack the palm of your hand into your forehead for creating this topic
I personally suggest EHAM to EHVB in Amsterdam region. If you’re on live, it says a 777 is too big for EHVB, but it really isn’t and if you’re just looking to practice, it’s perfect.
If you are on live remember that EHAM has a long taxi from the gates to the runway and you may pick up a violation if you land an aircraft that is too big for an airfield.
