TRIPREPORT: American Airlines | New York (JFK) -> Miami (MIA) | Main Cabin | Boeing 777-300ER

Good early morning everybody from a hotel Midtown Manhattan, New York City! :statue_of_liberty::red_apple: right by Times Square. I’m currently making way out to Queens more specifically John F. Kennedy Airport to catch my 6:00am flight back home to sunny but humid Miami, FL! :desert_island::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: I’m glad your joined me along the first segment of this trip and after a lovely Memorial Day weekend in the big Apple :statue_of_liberty::red_apple: it’s time I resume my regularly scheduled programming back home. While in the subway, I got a little bit of a sad feeling as NYC is AMAZING! I used to visit often but now that I’m traveling more abroad I haven’t got the chance to until recently and knowing I won’t see my friend here for who knows how long either makes this much more depressing.

Once I arrived at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, I made my way towards terminal 8 as I’ll be flying American Airlines back home as usual. But what makes this flight extra special is that just like the flight that brought me here, it’ll be operated by their flagship Boeing 777-300ER which is a great aircraft for long haul flights and it’ll be no different on this 2 and a half hour hop south. T8 at JFK is mostly AA but their partners like British Airways, Iberia, JAL, Cathay, Qantas, Qatar, Finnair and the subject of a future trip, Royal Jordanian :eyes: all also use T8 and while an American exclusive terminal is nice, it’s cool to see everybody sharing the space here. Hopefully MIA considers this as seeing a British Airways Airbus A380 or Qatar Airbus A350 in concourse D would be very beautiful to see while waiting for flights. Just like how it went in Miami :desert_island::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: it was straight to TSA pre check for me as I don’t have checked bag and once cleared I was granted with the sight of an American Airlines Chrome Airbus A300 model and a wall containing the history of the AA logo. Gee, I wonder which airline operates here? Maybe Spirit. As I couldn’t get breakfast while in the city, I made sure to stop by a Dunkin’ Donuts :doughnut: for an ice coffee :hot_beverage: and bacon egg and cheese sandwich :sandwich: this’ll have to do and unfortunately, Cafe Versailles doesn’t exist up north. My departure gate, 18 was in the same wing as my arrival gate also towards the very end but this time we actually have a view of our aircraft!

After staying in JFK for the night after its flight from London Heathrow, UK :united_kingdom: N723AN will be the Boeing 777-300ER which will be taking us to the 305 :desert_island::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: this morning. It was delivered straight to American in May 2013 meaning it’s just celebrated its 12th birthday! :tada: As I’d come to expect on early morning flights, we began boarding right on time good start to the morning!

All of AAs B77Ws have 304 seats in the same configuration which I covered in my previous trip so I won’t go back through all of that. Like always, my seat is back in row 27 but on the right side instead so that’ll be 27L! It’s just as comfortable if not, maybe even a bit more comfortable but that might just be the mood lighting and the fact that it’s an early morning. One thing I love about these early morning flights is definitely on time performance, we began boarding on time and we even finished 3 minutes early which is great! But soon enough it was time to pushback, fire up those GE90s :fire: and make our way to JFKs runway 13R for take off.

The Boeing 777 is an aircraft designed for long haul voyages, they do run the occasional short-medium haul flights like I’m on this morning and this makes the take off roll much shorter than usual. It only took us 30 SECONDS from spool up to rotation, what an aircraft! But now it’s time to say our final goodbyes to New York City :statue_of_liberty::red_apple: and JFK airport, for now :eyes: as we turn south towards Miami :desert_island::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

After banking directly south over the Rockaways and Long Beach, both NYC :statue_of_liberty::red_apple: suburbs @Anthony_Gulluscio sorry we reached our cruising altitude of 38,000ft just as we began hugging the coast of Delaware just a bit north of the Maryland border.

The crew began their service quickly probably because most of the cabin was pretty sleepy and once again, we were served biscoff cookies alongside a choice of beverage where this time, I decided to go with a Minute Maid cranberry cocktail :cocktail_glass::cookie: just to be a bit different. While the crew did seem nice, I BARELY saw them, but I don’t really blame them as it was about to be 7:00am local time and pretty much half the cabin wanted to sleep so they just chose not to disturb anyone so I’d give them 4 stars! :star::star::star::star:

This time however, I CANNOT skip purchasing WiFi as I have some last minute school work I has to get done as it was due 3 afters after arrival into MIA. So I just let the inflight map play for almost the whole flight.

Unlike my flight to JFK where we spent a decent over the Atlantic, we spent majority of the time hugging the coastline only leaving it behind briefly between Wilmington, NC and Daytona Beach, FL but we were still close enough to see the coastline cities like Myrtle Beach, SC!

We began our descent into Miami :desert_island::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: just as we flew right by Orlando, FL and Cape Canaveral, FL @Waxyscorpion308 summon for Orlando and @MyGoal_isNASA summon for Cape Canaveral and down below you can somewhat make out Orlando International Airport! Our approach brought us in flying along the treasure coast passing by Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, and Stuart. We’d stay inland as we approach northern Palm Beach County by Palm Beach Gardens, PBI airport and West Palm Beach :desert_island::performing_arts: we’d cross into the Atlantic by Boca Raton by the airport and remain off the coast for our entire time over Broward Country passing by Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale @SoFloAviator summon FLL airport and Hollywood. We’d begin turning back towards land as we fly by Aventura/Sunny Isles Beach in Miami-Dade county flying along Biscayne Bay passing right over the heart of Vice City :desert_island::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: before turning westwards by Coconut Grove and flying MIA airport on right downwind by Kendall before making a 180 base turn over the Everglades :crocodile: to finally end that lengthy approach into MIAs RWY 09!

The first part of the approaches definitely flew by no pun intended as we were soon directly over the city making out turn westwards towards gator land! :crocodile:

The downwind leg and base turn are also really quick as we were soon on our final approach into MIAs RWY 09 right by the Dolphin Mall :dolphin::shopping_bags: and here is a view southbound along the Homestead Extension of the Florida’s Turnpike (FL-821) towards Homestead and Florida City, the gateway to the beautiful Florida Keys! :desert_island::fishing_pole:

TOUCHDOWN! Welcome back to Miami :desert_island::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: this not that early but still morning, I’ll miss New York City :red_apple: but it’s nice to be back home and I American definitely delivered on this return flight, seats were equally great, crew was amazing not trying to disturb other passengers trying to sleep and the WiFi worked great as I was able to finish my work. The MIA → JFK route is very competitive as other than American, JetBlue, Delta and shockingly Frontier offer flights between the 3 and while DL and B6 arguably offer a better product. As an AvGeek however, AA will always be my choice on this route especially when it’s on a Boeing 777 or even 787 Dreamliner.

I love JFKs terminal 8 and all but it’s nice to be back in Miami International Airport’s concourse D which is equally as nice but unfortunately lacking a lot of American Airlines theming as this place is pretty much theirs and theirs only. Our aircraft would actually be soon returning to JFK but as for me, it was straight to my car as I once again had no checked bags and made my way up to Palm Beach :desert_island::performing_arts: on the ground time to rest before my biggest trip this year so stay tuned for that! That’s it regarding this American Airlines main cabin hop from New York JFK :statue_of_liberty::red_apple: to Miami :desert_island::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: on their flagship Boeing 777-300ER and as always between now and the next time, see you in the sky!:waving_hand:

Thanks for the ping! Yeah American t8 is nice, they have a big area. Their maintenance center here is basically just as big as their terminal is. Queite a bit of airline diversity too.

You guys already had your time to shine last time lol, now it’s time for the best and most important part of Florida to regain its supremacy

There’s a small bug, that left door is left open. Any reason why?

It’s just a common bug with the 777 on the replay
