Trip Report: My Longest Flight on my Favorite Aircraft

Hello everyone! I’m back at it again with another trip report! This one in particular I’m really excited to share for two reasons:

  1. This is my first flight on my favorite aircraft, the A350-900

  2. This is my first real long haul

I will try my best to provide a detailed trip report on this amazing 10 hour flight on board Finnair from Los Angeles to Helsinki. Let’s get started!

Before we get any flight started we need to take a look at the seat. Fortunately I was in business class for this flight which came with a very nice seat. With the seat came a large TV, a universal outlet, a footrest at the end of the seat that can also covert into a bed and much more. With the seat came a spectacular view of the right wing.

The takeoff was very smooth with an amazing view of the Los Angeles area and the beach. Unfortunately we did end up departing 30 minutes late which would delay us along the way.

As soon as we got to cruising, service started right away. All the crew members were very friendly and attentive.

Soon enough, it was time to order some dinner. Here is the menu of the various choices you could order from dinner (and breakfast at the bottom).

Said Menu

Unfortunately the meal I had originally wanted was all out (Roasted Chicken [Top]) so I went with the meatballs and for desert I got the Milk Chocolate Moose. Nonetheless the meal was amazing!

A few hours later, it was time to go to bed, the seat could be converted into a bed very easily and Finnair provided a comfortable pillow and blanket along with a small amenity kit including a sleeping mask. Here is a photo of what it looks like once converted:

I got about 5-6 hours of intermittent sleep, I did find it a little hard to sleep because of the aircraft noise but I’m not very good with sleeping on planes anyways.

When I woke up there was only about 2 hours left and we were just west of the Norwegian coast. Service started about 30 minutes after I woke up. There weren’t as many options for breakfast as there were for dinner though.

I got the frittata with bacon and I wasn’t a huge fan of it, the fruit was also not very ripe which was unfortunate.

With 45 minutes left we started our final descent into Helsinki. With two cameras on the aircraft you can watch from the “Tail” or “Bottom” view as they would be in Infinite Flight.

We touched down at exactly 3:43, about 20 minutes late. The landing was nice however there was definitely a slight crosswind and it could be seen from the “Bottom” view.

Overall Review:

Great trip report!

Do you happen to have a picture of both of the outside camera views?

I never flew on aircraft like that, so I still find it weird that airlines put outside cameras

Lol that’s why I voted 9 and not 10— we didn’t get to see the views that showed the crosswind and whatnot.

I couldn’t film the landing and the TV simultaneously
