Trip Report: Iberia | Marseille (MRS) - Madrid (MAD) | Economy | CRJ-1000

Bonjour from Marseille Provence Airport! This trip report covers the first of two return legs from my two-week vacation to Marseille and the French region of Provence as a personal celebration for graduating high school. I was accompanied by my French friend who guided me throughout the region. I got to meet some really cool people, see some really cool places, and overall the entire experience was very fun.

This flight is not only my first trip report, but also my first ever solo flight! The inbound leg from Santo Domingo was flown alongside my friend, but now I have since left him behind to do whatever French “people” do in their spare time. Honestly it’s not much now thanks to this God forsaken heatwave. Let’s get on with the review.

This was flight IB1174, flown on one of their Air Nostrum-operated CRJ-1000s, registered EC-LOX. My seat for this flight was 16F—an exit row seat. While I try to book exit row seats due to my height (6’6"/198cm), Iberia’s CRJ-1000s have an uncommon 31 inches of pitch which is very comfortable to fly in, especially on short intra-European flights like this.

It wasn’t too long before the plane was finished boarding and we headed out Marseille, taking off into the beautiful French sunrise from runway 31R. Apologies for the sunburst, the window had the dreadful combination of plenty of scratches and grime on it from previous flights.

Since it was 6am and I had pulled an all-nighter the night before, I immediately fell asleep and woke up on descent into Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport. No meal or snacks were served in economy, but that’s alright since none were expected.

Quite a nice touchdown into Madrid on runway 32R, 8/10 landing. Not too much bump but quite a bit of float. We arrived 15 minutes early which was nice but not really necessary considering I had an 8 hour layover waiting for me at the airport lol. Overall I give the flight a 9/10, especially compared to other short-haul flights I’ve been on.

Hope you guys like this trip report, and I’ll see you again on my second report which will cover the MAD-SDQ leg.
