Hello everyone. Yesterday I flew on one of the most commonly flown long hauls in IF, but in real life. I flew on American between London Heathrow and Los Angeles. Join me as I give a full business class review on this 10 hour flight!
My flight starts off with one heck of a scare. My flight from Amsterdam was scheduled to arrive at around 3pm BST giving me plenty of time to make it across the massive airport over to my flight which left at 5pm BST. Due to a ground delay at Amsterdam, we left almost 45 minutes late which made us arrive at around 4:30 BST, so I had to rush all the way to Terminal 3 at Heathrow, luckily we did make it.
I was seated in seat 7A for this flight. The seat was very comfortable and already came with an amenity kit and some headphones to use for the IFE. Shortly after I boarded, it was time to leave.
I didn’t get to explore Heathrow as much as I really wanted to, but to takeoff and see the airport made up for it. Our aircraft had to wait for a few other aircraft to depart including two BA 787s and an Emirates A380
About an hour after takeoff, the crew asked everyone to close the windows to let people sleep. Service began about 1-2 hours into the flight. There was a variety of options to choose from on the menu.
Dinner came as a three course meal. I chose the Sirloin steak as my entree.
To start, I was give a salad with chicken along with Salmon and Green Beans. The salad was great but the salmon not so much.
As I said above, for the main course I chose the sirloin steak. It came with potatoes and mixed vegetables. It was very delicious!
For dessert, I chose the ice cream sundae. It could be made two different ways. One was with mixed berries or hot fudge which is what I chose. This was also very good.
I tried my best not to sleep during this flight because our aircraft was scheduled to land at 8pm PST. The IFE came with a 3D view of the aircraft and showed details of our flight including airspeed, altitude, ETE to Los Angeles and much more.
About 6 hours into the flight and our aircraft has just reached the Canadian coast, I could barely stay awake any longer. I transformed my seat into a bed to try and catch some sleep.
American provided us with some sheets and a comfortable pillow. While taking the photos I accidentally had my flasher activated without realizing it would do that. I got about 3 hours of sleep which was good for me because I have a hard time sleeping on planes.
I woke up over the Utah - Arizona border with about 1.5 - 2 hours left to go. Service started while I was slowly getting up. I didn’t get a second meal because I had just woke up, and eating was not on my mind at the time.
After about 9.5 hours, we started approaching the Los Angeles area. The pilots did announce we would be landing 45 minutes early. The crew picked up any trash and prepared for a landing.
The landing was good, I felt the touchdown from the front but I really felt the nose gear touchdown. It was a short taxi to our gate in the Tom Bradley Terminal.
