We had a very early call time of 4:30 AM today for our long flight across America. Despite the early hour, the Sun was already beaming down onto our beautiful engines as I did my preflight walk around while the passengers were loaded up.
I made the quick taxi over to Runway 33 for takeoff. It was a slow climb with a full load of passengers and gas tanks filled to the brim.
I turned on the autopilot around 4,000 feet and let it bring us up to FL310. On the way, I admired the mountains below.
Over Manitoba, I decided to stretch my legs and head back into the galley to get our crew meal and take a look out the window. Alaska catering provided us with a turkey sandwich, chips, and an orange, plus a chocolate chip cookie for desert. 8/10.
I had to ask everyone to be seated over Ontario as crossed through some extremely bumpy rainstorms. To avoid the worst of it, I upped our altitude to FL370, but with the top of the weather hovering around FL450, there was only so much we could do.
After about six hours of cruising, it was finally time to set up for the JFUND arrival into Boston’s Logan International Airport.

I brought us in for a butter smooth touchdown and applied enough braking action to make taxiway Charlie, our ideal exit to put us into the gate the fastest. A real win-win situation all around.
Admiring our 737 MAX one last time. A fresh set of pilots and flight attendants will take it on a red eye to Portland, while we’ll be spending the night here before taking a 737-900ER (currently inbound from Seattle) west to San Diego
