TRIM at Landing?

Hello, I’ve been usign the TRIM at 25% when landing. But lately, I heared that the A321 pilots IRL use it between 40-60%, so I have been testing to land with 50% TRIM and I am landing so more soft and when I hit replay it looks more similiar to a IRL A321 landing. My question is, am I doing the correct use of the TRIM when landing, or should I keep using the 25%? I don’t know if the info I saw (they use between 40-60% irl) is true and I don’t know if I am using TOO MUCH TRIM on my landings. Thank you

Yes I use trim the same way. Trim is essential for takeoff and landing while also aircraft stability in flight. Loosens the pilot strain when pulling back on your device. Or pushing it forward.

I’d recommend you use whatever trim it feels more comfortable to fly with in that phase of that flight.

There is no set amount of trim to use for any phase of flight. It isn’t even really based off how you hold your device. Just keep trimming until you don’t have to tilt your device up or down to keep the plane at whatever speed you want to be. I say speed and not pitch because trim really controls what speed the aircraft is neutral at. To change your vertical speed or pitch you need to change throttle to change your vertical speed. As the plane gains or looses speed the nose will rise or drop to get back to the speed you’re trimmed for. But normally you should apply some elevator while changing throttle rather than let the nose lag behind.

So throughout your entire flight you should be adjusting the trim to make the aircraft neutral. You can tell if the aircraft is neutral when the autopilot is on with the pink line. Be sure that the aircraft is trimmed out before disconnecting the autopilot on final or else it might drop a bit or pitch up unexpectedly. The one exception to trimming for a certain airspeed is takeoff. Trimming for your initial climb speed might cause an early rotation. I usually takeoff with 20-40% depending on the aircraft, flap config, and load and trim out once I’m steady at whatever speed I want to climb at.

I love how everyone still says pink line despite that having been changed a while ago to a multi-coloured line, varying from green to red depending on how much force is being applied on the yoke/stick. 😂

I was thinking, what control inputs do I prioritize when I’m landing(?). On solo, short final, I just tried 787-8, CRJ-1000, A321, 757. I didn’t use any trim. I was focusing on power, pitch, bank, and rudder. I’m not sure how to interpret this (the idea of trim didn’t seem to enter into my idea of how to best achieve a smooth landing; though it has in that past in some cases I recall…).

Okay new topic that I can reply to.
What does the trim actually do?
I think the indicators tell me if I’m near/far from my neutral calibration.
What does the % do? What if it’s at 30? What if it’s at -30?

It depends on your landing weight, sensitivity settings and your personal habits. I usually trim wide-body aircraft between 15%-25% and narrow-body aircraft more.

the trim is the zero pisition of the horizontal stabilizer. You can see it moving while changing the trim. If you are landing and you have flaps 2 on an a320, the plane will need to pitch down to mantain speed, so you trim the plane down instead of having to constantly push your sidestick
