What is a transmission and when do you talk to ATC about a transition? I have looked around for answers but haven’t found any information
A transition is requested from a tower controller when you want to pass (or “transition”) through their airspace. This is most likely because you’re flying VFR and that is the route you want to take.
Often you’ll see a transition turn into an inbound if a pilot flies over the airport, thinks it looks nice and decides to land there.
Thanks. So if I get told to transition at or above 3500ft what do I do?
Overfly the airport at or above 3500ft
You’ve been cleared to enter the airspace, but must maintain at least that altitude to avoid interfering with aircraft doing pattern work.
Alright easy! Thanks for the responses
Incidentally, while doing that you are still flying VFR and you’re still responsible for separation, the tower will not give you instructions.
You can check also this part from the ATC manual for more information about transitions.
