I really like this idea. It would make ground operations feel much more realistic, especially at airports where aircraft are regularly towed between remote stands and gates.
It would also be great if this could be integrated into the ATC/UNICOM system. For example:
Request Progressive Tow to Gate
Request Tow to Remote Stand
This would give both pilots and controllers much better situational awareness and make towing operations feel like a natural part of the overall ground workflow instead of a standalone feature. It would be another nice step toward making ground operations as immersive as the flight itself!
Does it fully tow the aircraft from standing still to the desired gate/stand? As in turning and being able to move across an airport fully automatically?
This is just the manual pull feature. It’s been locked for the general public for a while, I’m not sure if the button has been released or if it’s been accidentally handed over with the release of LIVE to the community.
damn, but even a manual pull-tow feature would be really handy in daily ops, atleast for accurate pushbacks nd stuff since on many airports, the auto-pb doesnt align the long axis of the aircraft with the taxiway nicely unless its like a really straight nd long taxiway nd pushback-
the only problem i see w this tho, alongside the atc/unicom integration nd auto-tow to parking spaces on airports, is that it usually wouldnt be permitted in controlled airports with high traffic since the tugs themselves are really slow (~3kts), so it would significantly increase taxiway and airport ground congestion if these were frequently allowed. as a manual feature to hv would be quite the useful gimmick imo
Yes. I recently moved an aircraft from a remote stand in Barcelona and pulled it to the main terminal. IFATC was active so I was able to request a certain gate that I wanted and was given taxi instructions to the gate.
Only thing that kind of sucks is that you have to have at least one engine started in order for the tug to pull you. However, I found that if you barely start the engine and then attach the tug you can then turn the engine off and it’ll pull you.
so the manual pull is only available for live fleet users right now? regardless of beta/regular app? really wish it would be publically available to all users in any flight..
