TOGA is Takeoff/Go Around. It is usually used when the runway is short and/or the plane is heavy, when there is high temperature or altitude, and needs extra lift. Additionally, it is used for Go Arounds when extra throttle is needed immediately.
TOGA, as a general rule of thumb, can be 100% throttle. However, in real life, it is an automatic setting calculated on a variety of factors.
BTV is currently not an Auto-Brake option in the sim. Vote here:
TO/GA is used to get maximum power out of the engines. 100% throttle should do the job.
In real life, most takeoffs are performed with reduced thrust (also known as Flex thrust). We only use TOGA thrust in certain conditions. For example, if the runway is contaminated with something like snow, slush, standing water etc. or if there are windshear advisories in effect. In the CRJ, Flex takeoffs usually give us around 84-88% N1. If we perform a TOGA takeoff, then the N1 is around 89-91%. TOGA thrust in the real plane does NOT actually give you 100% throttle. In fact, just as some extra knowledge, we have a throttle setting in the CRJ above TOGA, which is known as APR Thrust. APR Thrust gives us the maximum power engines will produce. The only time we ever use this is if we get a windshear warning from the airplane.
So long story short, to set TOGA thrust in IF, you should aim for an N1 percentage in the 90s, depending on the aircraft.
Well, a big part of TOGA is EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature). When the outside temperature is too hot it, limits your thrust to stay within EGT limits. A Google search was telling me like 1°C change to OAT is about 3.5°C in the EGT, so it really puts into perspective how thrust is limited with temperature. In the simulator, I wouldn’t say you have to reduce n1 since EGT doesn’t change with the outside air temperature as it should and #2 being that the TOGA thrust doesn’t even hit its irl EGT limit in the sim. Unless someone is willing to try that hard to mimic real life, they could reduce manually, but they don’t have to. That also links and explains the FLEX setting you mentioned. It’s basically tricking the engines into using a TOGA thrust setting for a hotter than current environment.
There is already an autothrottle Features request, as autothrottle is currently not available in Infinite Flight.
