11:21:09: Holding present position at 7,000ft, left turns, Caribbean 502)
I was about to land when the ATC told me this. I understood it to mean that I should maintain the mentioned altitude and speed, stay in a holding pattern, and turn in a circle. I waited for about 10 minutes in this position, and when I requested permission to approach for landing, the controller gave me a Level 2 violation.
What is going on?
You should continue to hold until you are given further instructions. Long holds should be expected at TNCM due to the limited capacity of the airport.
The TNCM area is pretty messy right now.. Early this morning as I was approaching, both center and approach controllers have been sending me “you’re in an active airspace” commands everytime I switch from one to another, until at one point I’ve just stuck with the approach frequency. Probably normal as the airspace is completely busy, so mistakes can happen. Best you can do is to appeal like BennyBoy have instructed above.
