Timelapse: A Gorgeous 8-hr Qatar A350 Hop up the Eastern Coast of Africa

Hey y’all!

If you’re reading this, I demand you have a wonderful next (at least) 24 hours. I hope that my short little flight timelapse can start that period for you ;-). Yesterday evening (PST) I released a new flight timelapse video; you can watch it now! Join me for a gorgeous 8-hour flight from the “City of Gold,” the capital of South Africa, Johannesburg, up to the Middle East, to the modern city of Qatar, Doha. As we fly up north, we cross over all the countries on the East Coast of the African continent, with lovely views of the coastline and a variety of biomes. Later on, you can experience the deserts of Somalia, then the deserts of Yemen, and then (guess what!?) the deserts of Saudi Arabia before our descent into the controlled airspace on approach to runway 34L at Hamad Intl Airport. Check it out below, enjoy!

Real Life Recording: Southwest 737-700 Takeoff from Phoenix | Stormy Phoenix Departure

Join me in this video as we depart from a chaotic Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on an extremely cloudy and rainy night. As we deal with shifting flow and bumpy weather, enjoy the twinkling lights down below and rain-filled clouds we fly through. Don’t forget to enjoy the relaxing sounds from the 2 CFM56 engines. This footage was filmed onboard Southwest Airlines 1312, from Phoenix SkyHarbor Intl Airport (PHX) to Kansas City International Airport (MCI) on December 22nd, 2023. Please enjoy!

Thanks, man! :)

Wow! Great video!
Here’s just something I noticed

I don’t think this is the route you flew…

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Great job! The only thing I’d note is that aircraft never fly over Somalia or Yemen, and the real route is operated by a 787-8. If you ever want to fly it again, I can build you the real flight plan used on the actual route for extra realism—just let me know!

omg, thx for pointing that out lol!🙃 It’s literally bolded, don’t know how I missed it (I guess this is why you shouldn’t proofread at 3am)

Glad you enjoyed!

thanks, positive feedback is always great!

I will note that aircraft do indeed fly over Somalia, there’s an air route that takes them around Yemen, through Oman, over the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden, and down through Somalia. However, you are absolutely correct about Yemen, I seem to have misidentified it in the video at 1:52 as Yemen, however the flight took me over Oman. This was the route that the actual aircraft flew back when I started making this video late last year.
