Regarding et the African continent and since the launch of the 3D airport update, the team in charge has focused on airports in South, East and West Africa only, neglecting those in the North of the continent . For more than two years, only one airport in Morocco, that of the small town of Oujda, has been updated in 3D. Major airports like Cairo, Casablanca, Tunis, Algiers or Tripoli have been totally ignored. Very close to Europe, other airports with significant tourist traffic are also ignored, such as Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, Djerba, Monastir, Enfidha, Marrakech, Agadir… So if we turn our backs on an important region of the African continent, I wonder what are the criteria that lead to an airport being upgraded to the detriment of another? Anyway, I would like to thank the airports updating team for the great job they are doing
If you want this to happen, then why not join the editing team? I’m sure they’d love to have you!
I don’t have the necessary skills to do this work
The editors are free to edit whatever airports they want, and does not take requests. So the best way would be to join the team and edit them yourself. And you never know maybe some of those airports are in the works
You could always learn! I haven’t done any scenery editing myself, but I’m sure its pretty easy and straightforward to learn!
It’s pretty strait forward, but it takes a lot of time. I’ve done a few airports and it takes a lot of time to learn and edit but once you get the hang of it it’s very fun!
Sometimes a region can discourage many editors because of this. And as already mentioned, you can learn from scratch how to make airports, no previous experience is necessary, and there are plenty of people willing to help!
Im a scenery editor and looking to do a small airfield after I finish my current one. Are there any North African GA airfields you wish for me to maybe try? They have to be very small, with a low amount of hangers, maybe one local to you?
Thank you brother, but General Aviation activity in North Africa is underdeveloped. May be you can do that of Sfax DTTX, which is small airport with very small terminal building and many single engine military aircraft parking positions, as it is civil and military airport at the same time
Hello! Imagery in North Africa tends to be not so great. I have edited 2D airports in North Africa before and it was almost impossible. I’m not sure if this is the only reason why people decide not to do airports near there but it certainly is a factor. This is also the case in the Middle East which made editing OJAI extremely difficult. My only saving grace was the fact that I found incredible charts online and had videos from past trips there.
Airports in North Africa certainly aren’t being forgotten about. What many people have said above of the airports having not much resources avaliable is very true. For one of the airports in North Africa I’m currently working on, I can only find images of only a couple angles of the main terminals online, and have to pretty much work off that.
There’s no street view, 3D maps, spotting footage, or good full coverage of the airport. If anyone’s got any coverage of any of Algiers, then please do send it my way, it would be greatly appreciated!
Anywho, here’s a small early on WIP, just so you can be sure that North Africa isn’t being forgotten!
Don’t mind the small floating pole in the distant terminal, it’s only for measuring :)
I have some pictures taken by me for Tunis Carthage DTTA, Monastir DTMB and Enfidha DTNH showing terminal buildings. If you are interested i can send them to you by mail
