Hey there!

Thanks for the service at EGCC

here some feedback to help you with basics commands…

✅ P/B

✅ Taxi

⚠️ Direction on clearance for take off:
→ When a plane request for pattern work (remaining in the pattern) it means that he will stay and play at the airport. You need to issue a direction for patterns.

⚠️ Pattern entry on r/w change:
→ When a plane arrives inbound or change runway, you have to issue a pattern entry so the pilot knows how and where to go.

⚠️ Clearance with new direction:
→ Same here. On a first landing on a runway, you have to issue a direction for pattern after the t n’ go, so the pilot knows where to go…

⚠️ Frequency change on departure:
→ Don’t forget to hand off planes departing your airspace.

⚠️ Transition formula:
→ A transition is a safe altitude to travel trough your airspace. A simple formula to calculate it is:

Airport altitude + 2500’ then round up to the nearest 500’

Example: EGCC is 257 so 257+ 2500 = 2757 rounded up is 3000’

⚠️ Pattern entry on inbound:
→ every pilot coming to land needs: a pattern entry, a sequence if required, and a clearance.

Pattern entry: tells the pilot where to go
Sequence: tells the pilot when to go
Clearance: tells the pilot that he can land

This is required for all new inbound or after a r/w change

⚠️ Exit command:
→ Try to aim between 70-90kt to issue the exit command. In this case, try to issue r/w crossing instruction all at once with the exit command.

Hope this will help you a bit in this ATC journey you’re beginning!

Edit:

When a plane come to turn on upwind and is going to create a conflict, extend it’s upwind before letting them turn after…

Oh this is fantastic, thanks a lot!!! I’ll try to improve with these pointers, however im still a bit lost with the patterns and directions for inbound aircraft and aircraft within the pattern/doing touch and goes

Ah just closed 10min ago, will be open again either tomorrow similar time or in 2 days similar time as quite busy the next few days

So in response to one of your pointers, when clearing an aircraft for takeoff that’s staying in the pattern, would I tell them to make left or right traffic? (And would left or right traffic be in relation to the active runway direction?)

Yes exact… in my schéma, let’s say plane #2 was taking off for patterns, it would have received clear for take off r/w 24, make right traffic
