Recently speech changed on my iPad. I guess since the big IF update.
One of my flying buddies, @Joost3008, has ‘Easy 11GL’ as his call sign.
The way that call sign is being read is now both funny and annoying at the same time.
You would expect Golf Lima. That’s what it used to be.
On my iPad that has changed though.
Some things are pronounced a little different. Other things are just wrong now.
There have been post about the recent changes in speech.
A few things however are now different in ways I didn’t expect
I never thought Golf Lima would become Gigaliters!!
“Easy Eleven Gigagliters” is a weird thing to hear.
“A gigaliter (Gl) is a derived metric SI (System International) measurement unit of volume
equivalent to one cubic hectometer. One gigaliter (1Gl) is equal to one
billion liters (1000 000 000l). The gigaliter is used to measure volume
of liquid.”
just put a space after the letters as well as between the letters, is "EASY 11 G L "instead of “EASY 11GL”
I try and group the numbers that I use for a callsign so its a bit ‘neater’ when being called out by ATC. Example instead of “JERSEY 8046” I will use “JERSEY 80 46”. Makes a lot of difference, try it!
Yeah I know. I’m “[AIRLINE] 8 7 6 9” myself.
It’s formatted like that to hear “Eight Seven Six Nine” instead of “Eight Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Nine”.
with a three digit C/S will split like that, for a four digit will break into two sets. Not sure if that’s the correct way of doing it…but sounds right!
don’t know if it should be done, but that’s how I do it. Try both ways and see what sounds best to you.
I use the VHF radio a lot as work in the marine industry so we have slight different procedures and the call signs are generally the ships name or a 4 or 5 mix of letters and numbers.
