The Variety of Frankfurt Airport | Frankfurt, August 11-12, 2021

Hello once again for the third topic in a row!

During my trip some weeks ago, we not only stopped in Luxembourg and Ramstein, but also at Frankfurt Airport to catch a wide range of airlines and aircraft. After our arrival from Luxembourg, we started our spotting with the first wide body on a comparably short route from Beirut with the MEA A330.

Shortly after, another, yet smaller guest arrived from Paris on the way back to Bahrain with Gulf Air’s A321neo wearing their retro livery.

Quite a bit older was this arrival from Varna with European Air Charter’s (formerly known as Bulgarian Air Charter) MD-82.

Another rather rare guest arrived from Algiers when Air Algerie brought their A330.

Did you think the MD82 was old? Then here’s the big old lady from Georgia: Geo Sky’s Boeing 747-200

Rather normal but with some nice clouds in the background was this Boeing 777 of Emirates landing from Dubai.

Another cargo service that’s new to Frankfurt since the COVID-19 pandemic is MasAir’s 767 arriving from Miami in the late afternoon.

The last arrival of the first day at Frankfurt later on came just after sunset inbound from London - A FedEx MD-11F.

From an old work horse to a new airline: One of the A330s of Lufthansa’s new subsidiary Eurowings Discover about to land on runway 25C.

Something you would rather expect in London than Frankfurt since FRA isn’t quite a longhaul destionation from LHR - Virgin Atlantic sent one of their 787s to Frankfurt.

Let’s close this topic with another Queen of the Skies, this one operated by Atlas Air from Chicago.

My Equipment:

Canon EOS 80D
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM (99% of pics)
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0 L IS II USM (for wide angle pics)

Backup / Old Lenses

Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (for the 1% of the cases where I needed a wide angle lens, replaced by the 24-105 now)
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS STM (for the majority of my very old pics, bascially completely replaced by the 100-400 now)

Ha! First!

This is quite a nice livery, great work as usual!

it wouldn’t let me quote the picture :(

Ah yes, Air Algiere @AvioesEJogos,

Cool pics as always @Moritz!

The MD-82 is awesome, great photos @Moritz!

The Air Algiere meme lives on @Alex_Kraz.

Good job on once again beating @Balloonchaser, but I’m a bit disappointed by your quoting game indeed haha

Great photos as per usual Moritz

I expect your next spotting photos to be taken from above the aircraft. This is the new bar I have set. Meet or surpass or you will be sent to the Matrix.

jokes aside love the md-82 not many of those still around

Well, maybe I can get to the US at some point and do some air to air/ground spotting haha

until then I guess I won’t meet your expectations 👀😂

from experience actually, it is quite interesting to do air-ground, but even with a jib, or just plainly taking photos through the window, the “oh lord is the camera going to fall out” sensation never leaves lol

Omg I was on that exact flight (ME217) on August 11! I was omw to SFO with a layover at FRA.

Oh lol, that’s a cool coincidence! you don’t have a video of the landing by chance?

No :/ I didn’t have a window seat but managed to get a picture after landing.

I was at spotting at FRA 3 days earlier and it kind of bothers me that the GeoSky 742 came just a few days later… but well, I got the aircraft I wanted anyways. Nice pictures!

Isn’t it a regular visitor by now? 🤔 i think I also saw some days where several Geo Sky flights arrived at FRA

Kinda interesting though I wasn’t the last person to finally spot this 742 since it really started to feel like that ^^
