What do you think of the FL420 guys ?

Personally I love flying at these altitudes :), when I use the 787(I mostly fly with it), after a few hours I take it up to FL450, it feels very satisfying.

Do you mean… the forbidden flight level ?

I’m saying this because FL420 is not used in everyday flying, while you might see planes flying higher, like FL430, FL450 or even FL470, the FL420 is not used because RVSM airspace terminates at FL410. From what I understood, at such high altitudes ATC has “less” control and it is preferable to leave a 2.000ft gap vertically between aircraft. The same thing applies for FL440, FL460…etc
This is a very interesting topic, and you can read more about it with this link: RVSM airspace explained

You must have been very, very light then, because the only plane capable of going to FL450 in the history of aviation is the 747-400.🤣

no private jets can get up there no problem

Oh yeah Because of RVSM - Reduced Vertical Separation Minima.

FL410 is the top of the RVSM airspace, in which aircraft fly at 1000ft separation instead of 2000ft.

Since FL420 is outside RVSM airspace, you need that 2000ft separation. Being only 1000ft from traffic at 410… That’s a no go. Is that correct ?

But I would not say It’s forbidden because private jets can actually go there, right ?

Yeah but isn’t it forbidden ?

idk, i see lots of private air travel above FL400.

That’s right, I was carrying approximately 33% weight after a long trip of approximately 12 hours. Although, the aircraft at that altitude was not carrying any effort and I was surprised by this fact.

This is why the 787 needs a rework lol. Its Service ceiling is 43,100 feet

In the almost 5 years I’ve played IF… I can only recall twice when I flew at FL420

Once was when I did Frankfurt - San Francisco in the UAL 77W and once a few weeks ago when I did Centennial - Palo Alto in the CL35 right after it was released

If I recall correctly… This is also the service ceiling for the A350

Exactly, I fully support the redesign of this great aircraft which many of us enjoyed flying in IF :)

That would be correct yes.

I would say they aren’t allowed there. Unless there is no-one around for miles. Maybe @DeerCrusher can give you more info, he’s a pro 😏

Yeah but at FL420 ?

Why did you go there ? Simbrief told you ?

Yes, I agree, but I think Infinite Flight should first rework the aircraft that are likely to disappear in a few years’ time, such as the A380, 767 or 757, before concentrating on the next-generation aircraft, which we’ll have for at least another fifty years.

currently above FL420 in the US.

Really? You know that the 787’s maximum thrust percentage is 82%(100%N1)?

IRL, in game it can go to like 120%
