And this is why food safety is incredibly important.
I remember reading an article a few weeks ago regarding unwashed salads in supermarkets which spread a new type of E. Coli. This is also a big risk in airline food so anyone who is expecting a meal on their next flight be careful if you are eating a salad. If you are vegan then there’s nothing much you can do rather than risk it.
There’s a risk associated with doing anything. In general, the risk of eating on a plane is fairly low. Airlines and catering companies are held to extremely high safety standards. All the employees are wearing sterile gowns, surgical masks, and gloves. Every item of food is either well cooked or sanitized with chemicals. Surfaces are regularly sterilized with bleach. Food poisoning on planes doesn’t happen nearly as often as it does in a restaurant or supermarket, despite the fact that there are more passengers being fed by a single kitchen than there are in restaurants. When incidents do happen, the repercussions can be huge for airlines.
Probably the sour cream and chive pretzels on British Airways long haul flights.
WOW! metal utensils on a plane you normally only get that in business class or at least here in the UK.
A lot of the Asian airlines frequently use metal utensils. I’ve seen utensils in SIA, KAL, AAR, and JAL. DLH and SWR also have metal utensils.
Oh ok I did not know that guess you learn something everyday.
Absolutely vile.
Saw that tweet this morning… expected better from Delta, or frankly any airline :(
but how?! was it left overnight or something?
Possibly. Or perhaps the power to the fridge it was kept in went out. Could be anything, I guess. We’ll see if an investigation plays out.
So the passengers saw mold and still ate it?
Cool 👌 🍔🥩🍳🥓🥚
Great article as always @Mort !
Living by jfk, every time I drive out to Long Island I pass this parking lot for Do & Co catering trucks!
Very interesting topic! Now I know why majority of the airline foods I eat onboard tastes like there’s more water added into my meals, like this Economy Class meal I had on my recent flight with EVA Air. This meal, if I remember correctly, is the Japanese-style beef with rice. There’s also tasty fruits, a wonderful quinoa salad with fresh salmon, a nice fresh and warm bun with butter, and a sweet and delicious tiramisu for dessert! I also had a nice cup of hot coffee to compliment my meal.
This meal was probably my favorite EVA Air Economy Class meal that I’ve had in years. It really made me feel right at home 35,000 feet in the air.
And of course, EVA Air has very, very delicious rice crackers that were served as an appetizer before the main meal, in addition to a light snack in case if you get hungry later in the flight.
haribo
Nah, jk, I usually fly JAL to return temporarily to Japan. Their meals are amazing
This is obviously a Delta Catering problem, but part of me wants to kind of blame the victims here. There is blatantly obvious mold growth on the food. Did everyone see that and just choose to ignore it?
I agree with you on this, it looks horrible and is very obvious that there is mold growing on it. So why on earth would they eat it anyways? To see what the consequences would be?
nice and simple :) and trust me instant noodle beats some of the business meals I’ve had.
Worst curry I’ve had flying to penang…
airasia’s nasi lemak is much better… it’s only ~4aud😂
Cathay’s fish are ok most of the time this one was yum.
