The lack of Saudia Narrow-body liveries

First, I want to thank the devs for all the hard work that’s gone into this sim. The changes over the years have really shown, and I appreciate everything that’s been done, from the airport updates to the new features we’ve seen recently.

But I have a simple question: How are liveries chosen and added to the game? Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of liveries with high votes just aren’t being added, while other liveries with very low votes, sometimes from closed topics, are getting in. A lot of these are special liveries for one-off aircraft, like retro or alliance liveries that might only exist on one plane, while we’re still missing liveries from major operators that a lot of people have been asking for.

What’s especially frustrating is the complete lack of Saudi narrow-body liveries. We have nothing. The only one is an old, retired Saudia A319, and it’s not even a correct livery. It combines two different Saudia designs, which makes no sense. I’ve mentioned this before in a topic, and was told to “focus on a new Saudia A320 request,” but the A320 is already high on votes. The same goes for the KLM 738, TAP A330, Sichuan A350. people have been asking for it for years. Especially now that the Saudi/middle eastern community is growing.

I’ve worked for over two years to bring Saudi airports to life in 3D. I’ve put in countless hours because I genuinely hoped that one day we’d get a proper Saudi livery to match all that work. But right now, it feels like that effort isn’t being valued.

If there’s a shortage of designers or something else behind the scenes, why not open up livery creation to the community, like you did with 3D airports? That worked wonders for making the airport side of things so much more diverse.

I’ve been a loyal Infinite Flight user since 2012, and I pay for my subscription every year. I care about this sim, and I want it to keep growing. But right now, I’m frustrated and just hoping for some clarity on how liveries are actually chosen.

Thanks for listening.

I agree. I was often forced to use the A319 even though the A320 is so much more used in the network and even all the way up to Europe, too. I was hoping to get a Saudia A320 at least

For the TAP A330, they aren’t adding it, since the airline got rid of them and replaced it with the A330neo IRL

The Sichuan A350 has been confirmed

The perfect example is the Aeroflot A350, which is still inanacurate in the sim and the request have 100 votes

For the Saudia A320 (and the other popular liveries requests (also including the Aeroflot A350)), hopefully they will be confirmed :crossed_fingers:

Reading your post reminds me of five years ago, when it was exactly the same situation for Chinese liveries. Back then, we only had an Air China 737 and 319, and the 319 is also not accurate. Frustrated, I made a very similar post regarding this situation, and people said you need more votes to express the need. So I started to make requests for Chinese liveries in 2021 and rallying my fans in Bilibili to register in IFC (since most of them are unfamiliar with foreign forums back then) and vote for them. I said that if everyone’s just voting for their favorite ones, the votes will be scattered everywhere and none of the liveries will get enough attention. Instead I suggested them to all vote for a selection of 5 liveries (the limit for a TL1 user) until they’re confirmed. It turns out to be successful - just look at what we have now, after 5 years of campaigning, we have a good selection of Chinese liveries, and the fleet is expanding promisingly.

So, from my experience, votes are definitely a key factor, and though the fight for it may seem endless, it will eventually take effect.

We even saw it in 25.1 with Shangdong airlines joinig in the 737 MAX liveries

It is so cheap and quick to make liveries, compared to adding new features to the game. It literally cost the company 50 USD to find somebody experienced in making 3D liveries to make one.

I guess if only a few liveries are out each time, people are always looking forward to it and paying the subscription, while still hungry for more. There is this engagement which is all they need to attract subscription.

The livery mapping system is obviously easy enough to be opened to public as users used to make custom livery on Android phones.

Hwk hope the A320 or A321neo has the new Saudia livery

I’d literally pay $100 for them to add Imua One to the Max 8 for everyone to fly

This is what I’m talking about, if it’s what the community wants, why not make it? I don’t see the problem of having as many liveries as we can.

With only 7 votes compared to many others with way more votes that have been there years waiting.

This is actually a very good idea!!! If they opened it to the community i’d be interested to join and contribute.

I also love this idea!! However, i would love to see more mini updates during the year that have small updates here and there including few livery additions rather than waiting 6 months for a major update. I believe this will keep us motivated and excited throughout the year.

I agree, just hire a few people to check and verify both quality and accuracy. I would contribute aswell to bring in at least one Enter Air livery. But from what I’ve heard, they can’t add too many livieries because they increase server loads. Maybe there’s a way to overcome that tho, by changing the way liveries are being rendered or something (I have no idea about programming).

I really hope the devs take your words seriously and give us some clarity or a positive step forward. Honestly, the idea of opening up livery creation to the community justlike with airports is brilliant.

TYGD!

This is indeed a good idea as discussed by @Marc in the feature request.

I’d really like a response on this. Liveries are such a key feature in this simulator and unlocks many more interesting routes to fly

I defo have to agree with you, not only for Saudia; but the Middle East in general. We’re lacking lots of liveries on lots of aircrafts (Saudia A320, Royal Jordanian A320, Qatari A320, Etihad A320, Oman Air 737-800, Flynas/adeal A320, Iraqi 737-800, MEA A320, Cham Wings A320…) and those are only extremely basic requirements. But most of all them is Saudia. The country Saudi Arabia in IF is one of the most if not the most developed country by number of 3D airports. So this is extremely upsetting if we’re being honest, something has to be done.

I don’t think liveries will be created by the community in Infinite Flight for the near future. Given the high quality of current liveries in the game with each update, you really can’t trust the community to keep up to the current standards regardless how well the proposed livery review team monitors it.

I get how liveries may look easy to add but it’s really the minute details on each livery added that attracts players. You can’t garantee realistic liveries sometimes nowadays (i.e. China Southern B77W emergency slide markings missing) so how do you expect it’ll go after opening to the public? It’ll be like the IFAET all over again.

So you’re saying you’d prefer to wait for 5–10 liveries per update instead of giving the community the opportunity to contribute and potentially add many more? Respectfully, with that mindset, progress will always be slow.

Regarding IFAET, what’s the issue, exactly? I think it’s been a huge success. Many of the high-quality 3D airports we have today wouldn’t exist if IFAET hadn’t been opened to the community. Back when it was restricted, we only got a few airports per update. Now, we’re seeing 50–200 in each release, that’s real progress.

And honestly, many of the current in-game liveries aren’t high quality either. A number of them are inaccurate, take the Saudia A319, for example. I believe with proper moderation in place, opening up livery creation to the community could massively expand the variety and quality of what’s available.

Hello! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and frustration. Our process for selecting liveries has remain unchanged and is made up of a mix of top votes and staff selections. These staff selections are usually done in support of a real world partnership, upcoming event, new airport in progress or simply to inject diversity.

Regarding votes, about once a quarter I head to Features and sort the requests by livery then top vote. If you do this as well you’ll see that a Saudi livery is still fairly far down the list in terms of community demand. I understand that can be frustrating given the time invested on the editing side and the personal investment in your home country’s colors.

We’ll absolutely get those in development in due time but rest assured the absence of those liveries is not representative of our appreciation to our editors who dedicate time to creating airports for the community to enjoy. Those processes are separate and not related.

Cheers!
