The history highlight of anti-terror aviation comes back! | next.aviation

For years, the former Boeing 737 with the name “Landshut” stood on a flight field in the Brazilian Fortaleza. Now the aircraft is coming back to germany for 2 million euros. But why was this aircraft so important for the world history? In this article, we explain why.

On 13th October 1977 the flight LH 181 of the German Lufthansa started from Palma de Mallorca to Frankfurt / Main with 95 persons on board. What no one could know on board were 4 terrorists from the PLFP, a popular front for the liberation of Palestine.
The machine was abducted above the French airspace. For a long time, the machine wandered through Europe to Dubai and finally to Mogadishu, where the aircraft was stormed by the German special unit “GSG 9”. 3 of 4 terrorists were killed. A survived seriously injured. All passengers were freed. The captain of the plane was shot before the eyes of the passengers during the flight.
The terrorists had called for prisoners, the “RAF”, to be released from prison and $ 15 million ransom for the hostages.
For Germans as well as international authorities, this was the highlight of the anti-terrorist mission against the RAF and PLFP. At the same time, this was the end of the so-called “German Autumn”. As a sign of good international cooperation and the liberation of many hostages, the aircraft is now to be taken to a museum in Friedrichshafen. The machine is in bad conditions, it is said by the German authorities.
After the abduction in 1977, the aircraft flew some time for Lufthansa. Recently, it was traveling as a freight machine for a South American airline. Since 2008, the aircraft is on a cemetery in the Brazilian Fortaleza.
