Today marks the day that the iconic, 107 year long running show, featuring rides, food, rodeos, and agricultural shows starts again for 10 days. Parades and festivities kick off today for many, if not all Calgarians. This show attracts millions of people from places as close as Edmonton, to as far as Sydney, or Jeddah, for the many different activities. Of course that means planes, lots of them. Here’s what airlines are doing in celebration.
Calgary Airport Authority
As always, they have a sweet something under their sleeve. This year, it’s cowdogs!
These cute friends, armed with cowboy hats and bandannas are rescue animals, with their volunteer owners. These pets are located outside the secure zone in Terminal 1, concourses A, B, & C near the baggage claim. These pups, also known as “Pre-Board Pals, are a partnership between the Calgary Airport Authority and Calgary’s Pet Access League Society (PALS) that brings therapy dogs and their volunteer owners to the airport to enhance guest experience.”

4 years running, relieving stress from travellers alike, the little (and big) guys are free to pet, and their owners have free stampede passes!
WestJet
To spread the cheer as far as possible, three Stampede Princesses and 1 Stampede Queen we’re invited on the inaugural WestJet flight from CYYC-LFPG! The four day, all-paid trip allowed the 4 to see all of Paris, while bringing all of Calgary’s spirit with them.

As per usual for the last few years, one of the most popular attractions is open, the WestJet Skyride!

A skyride it is, sitting nearly 20 feet of the ground! This ride is filled with the funny jokes of WestJet, and offers great views of Calgary, and the mountains that surround it. Plus, it’s great advertising for flights from Calgary to B.C. 🤷🏼♂️.
In General
With the increased volume of flights, and larger aircraft at the airport, now is a great time to spot at YYC! I’m spotting on Monday, so stay tuned!
In conclusion, the Stampede is a tourist magnet, and an aviator magnet, but not many realize it!
