The airport you love to check

Hello dear IFATC members, I have a question for you and I’m really curious about the answers, which was the first airport you checked when you were ifatc, or which airports do you like to check, which airport do you want to check the most, including those who want to be ifatc (

I like airports with more player, usually HUB. It would be boring to open an empty airport. The airport I managed for the first time was KSFO, but of course, it was subject to maximum inbound flight restrictions.

After my restrictions were lifted, the first airport I controlled was London Heathrow. Afterwards, I attempted to start managing the hub.

The airport I most want to control is ZUUU because it is my home

I hope I didn’t misunderstand your meaning about “check”

When we become ifatc, can’t we control every java domain? This is a shame. What are the requirements for the removal of the restriction? I am in the recruitment process.

Hello,
I guess, most of the IFATC controllers would like to open their home airports after joining IFATC.

There are no location restrictions, you can open anywhere (as long as IF is available). When you first became an IFATC, there will be a limit on the number of airport arrivals that you can control. You can check the following User Guide

I can only tell you that this process is called ‘CheckRide’, and you can only view it after becoming IFATC

For information on the CR phase, please review 1A.7 of the IFATC Manual

I don’t remember the first airport because it was 5 years back but recently when I re-joined and got back on radar, I did my first radar session by opening Mumbai and Chennai center. Not a lot of traffic but was quite fun.

Regarding which airports I like to check in the sense that which airport would I love to open, I’ll give you a list of few of my favs and the reason behind it.

TOP 5

  1. Madrid (LEMD) - The main reason is that the airport has separate runways for arrivals and landings so at busy times, the ops run smooth.

  2. Dallas Fort Worth (KDFW) - I don’t know why I like this airport haha but I always enjoy doing ATC here. You can use 3 runways for landing and taxi layout is quite good which makes it one of my favs.

  3. New York John F Kennedy (KJFK) - I think this was my first airport where I tried drag and taxi feature. The taxi layout is Awesome here. It is quite fun to control it at busy times. With little to no terrain, radar becomes fun too with parallel ops.

Special Mentions (Same is for London Heathrow (EGLL) and Los Angeles (KLAX))

  1. Zurich (LSZH) - The airport has a beautiful scenery surrounding it and the configuration of runway 14 and 28 arrivals work so well during busy times. It is a favourite for sure.

  2. Dubai (OMDB) - The procedures here are so simple that you can have all on their flight plan until they reach base. It is quite a good one for the busy days and again the layout for the taxi is great and quite fun to control this airport with all the heavy aircraft traffic that it gets.

Some other great airports to control:

Terrain specific airports

  1. Mexico (MMMX) - Probably toughest to control and clear when it is busy since the terrain on 10-12 nm final is high and have to turn the aircrafts on short base.
  2. Santiago (SCEL) - The procedures are mostly straight ins so not very tough but a good sequencing is needed from start.
  3. Bogota (SKBO) - Quite high in elevation so the traffic always stays high speed and you have to manage with that.
  4. LUKLA (VNLK) - I mean come on, no procedures, no fixes, straight mountains!!!

Tricky ground layouts

  1. San Francisco (KSFO) - Can be a nightmare if it gets busy and you can’t get the deps out for the 01’s runway.
  2. Sydney (YSSY) - Some times you have to instruct traffic to exit on a specific side and that can have them taxi to their gate by crossing 2 times. It can be tricky since you don’t have a lot of taxiways.
  3. Princess Juliana (TNCM) - Less gates but tend to get very busy. Also, back taxi on runway and holds on radar adds to the fun.

Single runway airports

  1. Mumbai (VABB) - It has 2 runways but only uses 1 since both intersect each other.
  2. Auckland (NZAA) - Tends to be extremely busy and generates good traffic since it has some really good long haul routes.
  3. London Gatwick (EGKK) - 1 runway is closed and used as a taxiway.

The work radar have to put in order to give constant 4-5 nm spacing for fitting deps in between arrivals is quite alot.

At the end of the day, you can control whatever airport is within your rank limits in IFATC. For all the new folks out there who wanna control in Infinite Flight, do join IFATC training and you’ll surely enjoy the experience. Shoot me a DM if any help is required in IFC or discord.

Cya ALL!!!

if you like LEMD, try LEBL, it also has one runway for takeoff and the other for landings. And you taxi around the landing runway to takeoff, so u dont have to cross runways and people can arrive anytime

There are tons of airports like LEBL as in EGLL dor the best reference but at LEMD it is 2 separate for takeoff and 2 separate for landings and they don’t interfere so it becomes very easy and the flow is constant.

I first opened KSFO because it was under the 25 arrival limit and lax was also open nearby, and then later on my home airport; KJFK

Don’t remember the first one, but the first after my rank got updated to specialist, was TPA during Milton. It was crazy.

when i became IFATC i opened the SFO and LAX and JFK when they had under 25 now since I can open any airport i just open the hub when its available because controlling airports that have no traffic is boring and is a waste of time
