"Thank you" message before you end the flight.

Having landed and taxied to parking I sometimes feel quite grateful for good ATC service. So, what I do is to say “Thank you” before I log off.

Do you do that, too. Is it allowed? I don’t want to spoil anyones experience.

Do the ATC-pros get all annoyed by it or do they appreciate it?

I appreciate it whenever someone says thanks to me. I respond with thank you good day if the frequency isn’t too busy.

Yes this is allowed, it’s seen as kindness to us advanced controllers, it’s not an annoyance :)

i say “Thank you” to ATC for :

  • after wait a long time for a clearance/message
  • after a great ATC work
  • when a inexperienced ATC say the corrects things after a long time of wrong actions

I say “thank you, good day” at the end of my flights (if I remember to and like the ATC Service)

The only time it’s annoying is after we tell someone to check the help pages. 😡

I do that when:
• Finishing a flight (on the taxiway or at the parking spot);
• A Playground controller is doing the right things;
• The Tower controller grants me a runway change;

You should not use it in these situations:

“Due to heavy traffic, airport is not accepting incoming airplanes at this time!” - “Thank you!”
“100. Checked.” - “Cancel takeoff clearance, exit runway when able!” - “Thank you!”

Jokes aside, I usually use “Thank you!” when I leave my departure airport’s airspace, I recieve landing clearance and sometimes after the flight.

I say this very often, honestly depends on ATC … but now many of them know and I appreciate very much … they do a very nice and difficult service…

I welcome it but

  • Don’t say thank you and immediately leave the session! I cant say welcome :( It hurts my heart

  • Don’t expect one from me in return when you are trouble some
