Test flight and new route: Bolivia to Manila

CURRENT LIVE FLIGHT

I have not long departed Santa Cruz Viru Viru International Airport (VVI/SLVR) in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia bound for Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL/RPLL) Manila, Philippines as callsign Test Flight 2022.

Autopilot functions will be in use to ensure the navigation on our chosen path and to keep a set speed and altitude too but a constant observation of levels and variables is of course required as standard. Basic food will be served by the skeleton crew (me) consisting of whatever was left in the cupboard by the previous pilot as someone ate my packed lunch as I left it in the crew fridge at the airport in Bolivia for half an hour unattended.

I’m using a Boeing 777-240LR in Boeing house colours. This aircraft (registered N6066Z at the time of Boeing ownership) was owned by the aircraft manufacturer themselves for a year after it rolled off the production line in 2005, before being sold to Pakistan International Airlines who re-registered it to AP-BGZ.

Flight time on this test flight will be approximately 22 hours and we will be giving those 2 General Electric GE GE90-110B1L engines a good run.

The STAR (standard terminal arrival) procedure into Manila will be COND3R as we arrive from the south east side, onto an approach procedure of I06, landing on runway 06. I didn’t bother with a SID (standard instrument departure) on this occasion as the airport was quiet and the first waypoint on the flight path would take us roughly on the initial route of the SID anyway.

I’ll be step climbing altitudes throughout this long flight, from an initial 33,000 feet through 35,000, 38,000 to 40,000 feet to maximise economy. As the aircraft slowly burns through its gargantuan load of fuel, it will lose weight thus allowing the safe step climb to higher altitudes, thinner air and smooth flying. The chosen, bare bones flight plan was as follows, which was then tweaked accordingly to include the arrival and approach procedures to leave a hefty navigation over several continents and countries:

From here on the virtual flight deck I wish you a very decent 22 hours ahead - see you in the Philippines.

If you made it this far without falling asleep, congratulations on your dedication to the cause.
