I’m watching pilots on YouTube with ATC and when they are landing tower asked where the plane is parking should this be a thing in IF so we dont need to hold short on taxi way to pick a spot to park i think its mostly for private jets not sure about airliners but I’m sure its the same thing but I think this can bring more realistic feel to Infinite Flight
Private jets park at FBOs, not at terminal gates, such as Atlantic FBO, Signature FBO, Million Air, and smaller FBOs located at regional airports. I can’t speak for most other pilots, but during my arrival briefing—and even before I take off—I already know where I’m going to park. If ATC were to instruct aircraft where to park, they would need to have extensive knowledge of the airport and the gates assigned to each airline. This feature would only make sense if @United403 were controlling KJAC. It’s a good idea in theory, but it’s just an extra ATC communication that is unnecessary.
Judging from the title and the quote, I believe he may have meant for a feature request that allows pilots to tell ATC where they are parking. Correct me if I misunderstood @Nick_Emmi.
However, the above is already an existing feature*. Upon landing, pilots can request a specific gate/stand by tapping it on the map and pressing “Request Taxi”.
*For 3D airports with a DnT taxiway network.
Yes, I understand. There is also the ATC communication where you can request taxi to a specific gate after you land, so there’s no need for additional communication before landing. ATC’s job is to control the flow of traffic, so letting them know where you’re going to park before you land isn’t necessary—they’re going to instruct you where to taxi regardless.
Huh? Whaaa???
What I’m getting at is with the private terminals I heard on real atc tower asked where the pilot is going to park they said we are going to signature then after they land ground control gives them the taxiways to take to get to their FBO and it’s also the pilots responsibility to tell where they are going so they are not out of sequence with the flow of traffic also your really just telling tower where you are parking at then when you contact ground then you pick the spot at what FBO you are parking at
This generally happens at airport with multiple FBOs so tower can issue a specific runway exit. Since we’re utilizing a text to speech UI with limited functions, this would be difficult to integrate into the existing UI for a niche case use.
Best practice for pilots is to exit near where they plan to park, know where it is on the map, and requesting taxi to parking once they’ve exited the runway completely and taxied to be next nearest ground holding position
