During my feeder deliveries today for DHL on the expert server, my half way stop was TDPD Douglas-Charles airport in Dominica, Caribbean.
Due to the very strong tailwinds coming from the East, landing on runway 27 coming in from the ocean was not possible today. I saw no procedures available for Rwy 9, so I assumed it was likely to be steep terrain and not advisable as I’d not been there before.
Apparently, the circle approach to Rwy 9 is a bit of a challenge thing in other flight sims after googling for info and I fly a lot of purely visual patterns in the Xcub etc, so I was up for having a go at hand flying the steep approach myself(also I needed to finish the delivery as I’d flown an hour from St Vincent).
Here we go….
These few pics show views of the steep approach during base turn. I was at 2500ft MSL when I began my turn.
After I overshot my base turn slightly and corrected, now we are a little high but we have plenty of runway to work with.
Very fun and I’m glad I inadvertently did the challenge, but to be honest, just a normal day for the seasoned feeder pilot ✋🏻👨🏻✈️😂🫡
Have a go yourself or how did you do?
