Taxi to gate from parking / maintenance etc?

Hello, I was wondering if I or someone else request taxi to gate, before starting to fly is acceptable or not.
Taking the plane to the gate from parking area or from maintenance hangar. I did this one or two times and I didn’t have any problem (it’s been a year I guess), I just want to make sure if that’s okay to do. instead of spawning at the gate.

I personally enjoy seeing pilots simulate towing operations when I control

I often do a variation of this when the correct gate is considered to small for the aircraft in IF even though irl the aircraft leaves from that gate.

That’s true sometimes pilots come when plane is already at the gate they switch crew in that moment or sometimes they take plane to the gate I used to think maintenance guys do this before until I realized only pilots are allowed to do this :sweat_smile: (and for tow car to pull the plane I think pilot must be in cockpit, I appreciate confirmation if anyone works at the airport or as a ground technician.)

I did this for going out of Chicago, request and taxi to the deicing parking area and I request for a active runway for departure, it is very interesting to see
