Today, 19 years ago, Swissair Flight 111 crashed near Peggy’s Cove in Novia Scotia. Some of you may remember this disaster, some may not. So, I’ll fill you in on some info. Swissair Flight 111 was a regularly scheduled passenger flight from New York City, New York to Geneva, Switzerland. The plane was an MD-11. During the climb, a fire alarm went off in the cockpit. The crew had no idea what was going on. Then, the cabin lights shut off. After that, controls started to fail, due to an electrical fire. This lead to disorientation and loss of control, causing the plane to crash, killing all 215 passengers and 14 crew. Many passengers aboard were well known.
