Streak Eagle 50th Anniversary Flight

An F-15EX Eagle II assigned to the 96th Test Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., performed an unrestricted climb at Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND, Feb. 21, 2025.

The unrestricted climb was part of a celebration commemorating the 50th anniversary of Project Streak Eagle.
Streak Eagle was a modified F-15a testbed, stripped of its paint and non-essential components.
After many unsuccessful attempts, on February 1st, 1975, at Grand Forks AFB, Streak Eagle broke the Time-to-Climb record.
Strapped to the runway, holding full afterburner, Streak Eagle launched itself to 98,425 feet in only 3.4 minutes from brake release.

Afterwards, we decided to stick around for a bit and we were not disappointed. A B-1b Lancer from Ellsworth AFB gave us quite the surprise.

An RQ-4 Global Hawk also decided to pop its head out and say hello.

Which picture were you like: “yeah okay, maybe he’s a good photographer…”

Two of my favorites as well! 💪

Data from the AFB says that they achieved 50,000 feet in one minute on this climb!

Did someone say…
