Strange Pronunciation of Cities

First I wanted to make a Features Request for an improvement of some city pronunciation. Then I saw there are old threads from 2017 and similar, mentioning Siri as the speech automation, other say something about IOS speech pronunciation. So before I make a request, I would like to understand, how the ATC/ Unicom speech works. Is the pronunciation running over Siri? Or is it an In-App speech module? Or is my IOS involved?

The reason is ( I am really happy with this Infinite Flight Simulation and I love it and I know, the Devs are really busy right now with the coming update and further on, there are much more important issues than what I feel a bit bothering) a lot of city names in non-English countries are pronounced really strange, or respectively completely wrong.

For example (standing for many others):
Flughafen Frankfurt (EDDF), I always hear something like ā€œFullerton Frankfurtā€. Flughafen means airport and is pronounced rather like Flew g haaven, ˈfluːkˌhaːfnĢ©

Or Wuxi airport near Suzhou, Jiangsu: The App always says like ā€œWuck-seeā€ which is totally wrong.
It’s rather like ā€œWoo-shiiā€ - [wuĢÆĖˆÉ•iː] or wuːˈʃiː
but it kind of always gives me goosebumps to hear that wrong pronunciations.

And there are many more.

I don’t use Siri and have it deactivated, because it constantly listens to what I talk privately, but in the 2017 thread it is said, when I make Siri additional pronunciation choices, that would improve it. But others would still hear the wrong pronunciation, right?

Please! How does the speech generator work? Implemented in-app, or using device resources?

It comes from your phone. In fact on some phones you may change the verbose settings to change the pronunciation, i.e:

  • ā€œDenpasar Ngurahā€ becomes ā€œBaliā€

  • ā€œIndonesia 719ā€ becomes ā€œGaruda 719ā€

  • ā€œWuck-seeā€ becomes ā€œWoo-shiā€

  • ā€œPapa Kilo Five Nineā€ becomes ā€œPapa Kilo Five Ninerā€

  • ā€œUnableā€ becomes ā€œI can’t do that you d…#@%^@!ā€

etc. all sorts to your heart’s content.

But for some sad reason I couldn’t find it on my phone brand’s settings, though I know its available on other phones.

NOTE: Only you can hear the changes in your own phone, other people can only hear what’s been set as standard in their own phones and vice versa: you can’t hear other people’s verbose changes.

Here’s a thorough read fer ya:
