Spotting @ EWR 3/23/25

Newark Liberty International Airport (3/23/25)

Location: Newark International Airport (KEWR)

Welcome to The Garden State!
Due to both work and life commitments, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve last gone plane spotting so this past weekend I decided to dust off my trusty Nikon and booked myself on a NJ Transit bus to Newark Liberty Airport! For those familiar with the airport, I initially set up camp in P6, the long term parking lot near the threshold for 22L/R for a few hours before heading to the smoking patio at the old Terminal A for some taxi shots. Braving both the cold and gusty winds here are some of my personal favorite shots.
Enjoy!

Starting us off here, we’ve got ship 24988 a 787-9 in ‘The Future Is SAF Livery’ rocketing out for L.A.

SE-DMS a 3 year old A321-253NX operating as SAS907 from Oslo. It truly amazes me on how far Airbus was able to stretch the limits on such a small plane.

OE-LPL an Austrian 787-9 taking ‘eurowhite’ livery to its extreme.

Yes you’re seeing double! Ship 954AK a 737MAX9 departing for Portland and EI-LRB an A321-253NX taxiing in from Dublin in the background.

C-GLQZ, a devilishly handsome Porter DHC-400 taxiing to the penalty box awaiting its gate to clear up. If you look closely you can notice that the number one motor is feathered!

Ship 75435 a retrojet in Continental ‘Blue Skyways’ livery. So many fun memories flying PMCO when I was younger  !

Another LCO ship, this time ship 78005, a B777-224 in the new Evo Blue livery rotating for San Fran.

C-FUJZ a Mitsubishi CRJ-900 operating as Jazz 881 departing for Toronto Person.

And as a grand finale, F-HNCO a La Compagnie A321-251NX in the 10 years livery on very short final after its long flight from Paris Orly operating as DJT102.

Thank you for viewing! These pictures are of course just a fraction of all the amazing shots I was able to take so I hope you enjoy them as much I did taking them!

I love EWR airport! Cool session! Some very nice pics. Overall though, Newark/Elizabeth just makes me…. Sad… refineries and factories as far as the eye can see, giant ports and stacks of containers… it’s just so industrial.

It’s unfortunate but makes sense considering the area’s proximity to the city as well as having all the facilities needed for an international air & sea port of entry. Thank you for the like! :airplane:

I can’t choose a favorite :sob::sob:
They are all gorgeous

If I absolutely had to choose a favorite, it would probably have to be the retro Continental 737-900ER

Well stated! Definingly a personal highlight of the day due to its elusiveness and a personal connection to the airline :airplane:

Some good stuff. Did you used to post here and the topics were removed? I swear I remember a spotter from a while back with a similar name but you don’t have any other spotting topics. Or maybe I’m hallucinating, lol.

It’s been a while since I’ve interacted with the lovely people here so it is quite possible some of my older topics have been lost to time! :airplane:

awesome pictures! how does one manage to spot at EWR though, their locations are so limited considering the close proximity of industrial buildings. I’ve checked spotter guide but tbh it’s not clear enough for my comprehension lol

Easy way is the Terminal C deck. It’s located outside on the south side of the departures level (walk on the sidewalk until you see it, it’s a smoking deck). Good for both departures and arrivals on 22s and 04 departures.

There used to be a better deck on Terminal A but since NTA opened it is no longer accessible and the police may come get you if you try (although it is technically accessible I think by walking from Terminal B)

gotcha, is security tight there? I don’t like the stress of looking out for people that don’t approve of taking pictures of metal birds

You will probably get some weird looks from the smokers and it will definitely smell awful but I wouldn’t worry about the law or about getting stolen from.

As always though, this is NYC (and honestly just America in general). Carry your ID at all times and be prepared to explain yourself (especially if you’re a non-East Asian POC). I’ve spent probably 10 hours total on that deck and I’ve never been approached by the authorities.

4-8 were taken at the old Terminal A smoking deck a short walk from Terminal B and past the employee shuttle bus terminal, no issues with security there. Everything else was taken at the P6 lot PANYNJ P.D was a little temperamental that day but usually they wont give you any problems :airplane: .

Nice shots. At one point or another, United Cargo folks or the bus drivers will catch site of you at P6 and call PANYNJ. Annoying.
