Let’s Honor Herb!
Herb Kelleher, the co-founder and owner of the beloved low cost Texas-based carrier Southwest Airlines, passed away on the 3rd of January in 2019. He leaves behind a legacy, and a idea, that no one will ever be able to match. Herb Kelleher, and a close friend named Rollin King, came up with the airline idea over drinks at a party in 1967. Their idea was to form an airline that would fly between three highly populated cities in Texas, for less. These cities are Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. 4 years later, Southwest Airlines became a reality, with a 737 flying a triangle in the middle of Texas. The Texas Triangle is still the most congested route in Southwest with over 40 flights making the 3 hour 3 stop trip. I want to replicate this trip in honor of the founder of this route, and the founder of the airline who flies this route, and the founder who founded true low-cost flying. So join me, and your fellow IFC members, as we fly this historic route, for Herb Kelleher.
