Spitfire Mk VIII HL*HH (US markings)

The little star in the title represents the US star.

This Spitfire Mk VIII belonged to the 308th Fighter Squadron of the 31st Fighter Group of the USAAF.
The photo was taken when the aircraft was based at Castel Volturno, in Italy, March 1944.
It was painted in the RAF´s desert colours of Azure Blue, Dark Earth and Middle Stone. It also had a red spinner and yellow propeller tips.

I can imagine flying the Spitfire from the cockpit. I even managed to learn how to land it yesterday.

Changed it for a *. The “o” is the British roundel. The * is the American star, and the “+” the German cross.
