Spitfire Mk.TIX and Boeing Stearman at Dunkeswell

I was at Dunkeswell Aerodrome the other day and spotted the Boeing Stearman and Supermarine Spitfire Mk.TIX. I had no clue what was about to happen later that afternoon…

The camera I used for the upcomimg pics was a Canon EOS 250D, with a 55-250mm lens.

The Boeing Stearman is used for wing walking at Dunkeswell. That day there was an old lady on top of it!

Now for the 79 year-old Spitfire Mk.TIX. Dunkeswell offer Spitfire flights from over £3000, yes 3 thousand pounds. The Spitfire had been converted into a two-seater to make these flights possible, hence the ‘T’ in its name. You fly along part of the southern coast of devon.

When the Spitfire was parked, I was taking a billion pictures of it as I’m obviously an aviation geek. The Spitfire pilot saw my enthusiasm and offered for me to taxi with him in the Spitfire to the refuelling stand. The most amazing experience of my life. Kudos to the pilot.
The interestng thing about this two seater Spitfire is that the controls in both cockpits are somehow connected and therefore move about at the same time, so I could see the throttle lever go foreward and back and the pedals push in and out. The cockpit is origional except for one digital navigation nstrument:
