Spirit Airlines has been struggling for years, ever since the COVID-19 Pandemic they have haven’t been profitable, now while this has been impacting ultra low cost carriers in the United States
and not just them, they have however felt the most pressure from this. After failed mergers with JetBlue and Frontier, they filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in November 2024, they emerged from that in March 2025 and it was smooth sailing before filing for Chpt 11 once again just 5 months later in August. This time however, it was looking more serious. They cut routes, retied aircraft and all other tactics in an attempt to save money but there was one thing that increased in costs that they couldn’t control. Fuel prices, the conflict in Iran
has caused oil prices to skyrocket whether it be gas for your car or jet fuel for aircraft. Finally on May 1st, 2026, Spirit stated that if they don’t have a bail from the Trump Administration, they would cease operations on midnight May 2nd Pacific Time. With no funding from the federal government and the deadline approaching, Spirit flights made their final landings across the country and at midnight, the airline officially ceased operations and their remaining flights were cancelled leaving thousands if not millions of passengers stranded and all of their employees without jobs. With this topic, I’ll showcase some pictures I took of Spirit aircraft in game over the years.
NOTE: These photos were all taken at different times with some ranging as early as December 2023, editing may or may not be present and the old rendering engine is still in use
