I see that there is a mach number that comes up on the left panel underneath your speed, and the other one in the autopilot settings, yet I just figured out today if I want to go 0.84 in the 777 do I need it to say 0.84 on the airspeed indicator or on the autopilot settings, as right now my autopilot shows 0.85 but my airspeed indicator shows 0.84. If someone could tell me which one is right that would be great.
I’ve had this glitch too. Just last night actually. Idk rly
Depends on the tail and headwinds
I am flying Eastbound.
In that case, I would set my autopilot to M0.84. This is only related to the engine lifetime, regardless of tail/headwind. Setting your autopilot to M0.85 would only lead to your engines experience fatigue sooner, although it may not be that significant. You may also experience a change in the wind direction (from headwind to tailwind) so you may need to manually adjust your autopilot to match your IAS. Personally, I wouldn’t do that if I were doing a long-haul.
I am flying Eastbound.
Only saying eastbound doesn’t really help since the wind direction also depends on your latitude and geographical settings.
Ok thanks, can a moderator please close this topic now.
777 has speed drop. If you set 0.85 the 777 will fly at 0.849 and thus show 0.84. You can see this by deactivating speed AP and bumping up the throttle a tiny bit.
So what do I want
Set it to 0.84 and let it display 0.83, you’re really flying 0.839.
