Hey everyone. I have been flying recently and have noticed that after a certain altitude speed is changed from kts to Mach. I would like to know the speed limit at alt FL320 and when it became Mach)
The max would be Mach .85.
I believe it’s .87 for commercial jets. .60 for DHD8. Don’t remember the rest.
Although there is a speed max, there is a crusing speed for some planes. For example, the ERJ-190 has a crusing altitude of 370FL and a crusing speed of .70M, even though its speed maximum is .80M. Hope this helps
As @schyllberg said VNE is Mach .87, and it switches on the A/P from IAS to Mach at FL280.
I think the OP was asking at what point do the numbers go from kts to mach. For example as you climb it shows kts and then magically at a certain point it converts to mach.
I thought it was at FL180 but I think I saw it was after that. I will defer to the actual pilots in the room.
@Chris_S this would be what he is looking for.
Thanks I knew it had an 8 in it. lol
