Southwest Airlines Livery Tracking Thread

Also N8690A will still be Colorado One right??

Where does he say this at? While I wouldn’t put it past him, I don’t see that he posted anything about it.

That’s a commercial flight

Doesn’t look like they did. The nose cone is a different color

Hmm… I guess they didn’t fix it yet then. Wonder what’s taking so long. I mean, it’s not the worst mismatched nose and at least it somewhat matches, but it’s been over a year now since it was replaced.

Maybe they don’t have the paint needed to fully redo it? Or maybe they’re planning on changing the color a tad.

Who knows. But I wish they would fix it one day. I really wonder what happened to the original nose cone? At this point, it kind of seems like they just gave up and are going to leave it like that which is a shame. The gold clearly doesn’t match and the stripe/chest line doesn’t line up.

Yeah, it’s better than most mismatches and the average person would likely never notice, but it’s obvious to us AvGeeks…

If this current nose cone gets damaged and replaced with a blue one, they’d be on it quicker to match it. Maryland One was like that for a while but it did eventually get fixed

N8975K is currently being ferried from BFI-PHX right now. This makes the third brand new MAX 8 that’s been delivered to PHX this week. N8972S and N8973S were delivered earlier in the week!

Love how PHX is the induction site for new MAX deliveries!!

I believe they use it as their “Make Ready” facility. Basically, when the aircraft arrives from Boeing/Seattle, it’s just the aircraft with the livery and the seats. Once it arrives at PHX, MTX personnel adds Southwest-specific items to the aircraft, like the Heart logos on the bulkheads, all of the seatback literature, galley stuff, and even custom cockpit items like the handheld mics. It’s essentially “made ready” for service there. Flying With Big Ern was part of a new MAX 8 delivery a year or so ago and explained all of it. It’s quite interesting!

Yes, that’s exactly what they do. I’ve gotten to tour the SWA PHX MX hangars before and luck of the draw a brand new Max 8 arrived from BFI minutes after we got there and I got to go inside and I can confirm the bulkhead decal wasn’t there along with safety and menu cards.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing! How exactly does one get to tour the WN MTX hangar btw?

I believe if you can contact the director of the MX for a specific location (or whoever the highest person is) and be polite and ask for a tour I believe they’d be more than happy to give you one

It’s going back to Birmingham again on the 12th.

Makes sense tbh. It’s not too far from Seattle and Phoenix is a giant Southwest “hub”…I think.

I still don’t really understand why they moved the specials up until Louisiana to their -800s. It seems a bit counterintuitive since the NGs are scheduled for retirement by 2031. I know that’s still 6 years so idk why I made this comment to begin with

It’s just a commercial flight, and it isn’t scheduled to go to BHM on that day anymore

What I never understood is why put the special liveries on the -800’s with the older Evolve interior. I actually know someone who flew on N8642E (Heart One) last month from LAS-MSY. They said how old the inside was with the beige seats.

And I still don’t understand why Southwest all these years later hasn’t updated the interior on those aircraft…
